Summary: Essential
Review: It's mind-boggling that this book is the only one of its kind in print. This is the only book I've seen that dedicates several pages to each exercise and describes exercises in sufficient detail to learn them properly. There are lots of books that list hundreds of exercises, but beyond having a picture of a steroid monster performing the exercise, the technique description is usually limited to "just do it." Unfortunately, Nike's advice doesn't cut it when it comes to exercise technique. If you plan to build up to substantial weights without a knowledgeable coach, this book is a must.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Best book thus far on proper weight training technique!
Review: Just bought this book and of the dozens of weight training fitness books this is my favorite. It explains clearly in plain English for us non-drug steroid users with normal bodies how to get buffed without fanfare. Stuart writes clearly with no bs and cuts to the chase. I also like his fitness tracker book, The Muscle & Might Training Tracker.

Summary: good pieces of info
Review: mainly information as adjuncts to more common knowledge that improves on your form factor and performance looking out to avoid injury usually culminated over time and use.

for example one advice it emphasizes in bench press is to lower the bar to the lower pec region and not the shoulders which puts the shoulders in undue pressure, and then push up in a plane that is diagonal which finishes at the end point above the shoulders.

Many points to this effect and also a lot of advice to the correct posture of the spine and back and also breathing form.

Summary: Avoiding Injury is Everything
Review: Proper form when lifting weights is crucial, and Stuart McRobert not only provides pictures of excellent form, but also gives the hows and whys of his reasoning in the text. This book is an excellent handbook of technique and form for the basic exercises for both beginners and seasoned weightlifters. I recommend it highly, although you will need someone to videotape you or analyze your form; you cannot lift weights and analyze your own form at the same time.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Important for those who train themselves and others!
Review: Stuart's book is excellent and should be a reference for anyone who lifts weights or instructs others how to lift.
It was also refreshing for me to realise that the way I was taught to train back in the 1970 with regards to exercise performance and selection was correct.
I still have arguments over exercise performance with many people who should know better as they are responsible for how others are doing the exercise. It annoys me that the trainees come to me after they have been injured and it is too late.
Excellent reference and good explanations of errors that can creep in over time.
The answer of course is perfect form = no injuries!

Summary: Compulsory reading for all gym users
Review: Stuart's book on technique is terrific. I have always tried to use good form, as good form builds better musclature. This was the first resouce I have found that covers absolutely every angle of form, and I've really benifited.

Too many people don't use good technique, and have no idea what it is. This book explains it very clearly. A must read for any gym user, as it will stave off those injuries hampering progress.

This book should also be read/bought in conjunction with "Beyond Brawn", also by McRobert.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An essential resource
Review: The rave reviews given this book are well merited. Whether you are a serious musclehead or a fitness oriented strength trainer--if you do not have excellent form sooner or later you will have problems. This book is the only book that gives enough detail about the correct form of the fundamental strength training exercises.

If weight training is part of your fitness routine you must own this book and study it carefully.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Probably the most important weight lifting book
Review: This and McRobert's other book, "Beyond Brawn" are the only two books you should pay any attention to for instructions on how to lift. This book is extremely important. It tells you in painstaking detail, the correct form to use with all of the important exercises you should be doing (ie, these are the only exercises you should even consider doing). Want to know why? Read "Beyond Brawn". The most important part of weight lifting is lifting correctly. You will get so much more results from lifting correctly with the correct amount of weight (ie the amount of weight you can handle and still maintain form) than the 99% of people who don't do it correctly. All you will get from lifting without correct technique is injured. Do yourself a favor and get this book. Study this book. Do your exercises correctly. Get the other book, "Beyond Brawn" and learn what works (you will probably be surprised) from what the 99% of people in the gym are using....that, unfortunately, doesn't work (unless they are taking steroids that is).

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The safest and purest form of weight training technique
Review: This book should be a must-read for anyone who starts weight training or ever enters a gym.

This book covers the safest/most effective exercises maybe even too thoroughly. This book should be the highest standard of exercise technique.

McRobert may be too cautious on some of his advices on how to perform the exercises, though.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The Insider's Tell-All Handbook On Weight-Training Technique
Review: This book should be on the shelf of every weight-trainer!! McRoberts has taken the time to genuinely address the realities of correctly performing virtually every safe strength producing movement available(Olympic lifts excepted). In my own experience it has allowed me to progress from constant minor injuries to none in less than a year while at the same time learning to both deadlift and squat correctly. The information in this book, when followed, will let you lift intensely, without injury. In my case it also explained how I was being injured by my technique before I'd been exposed to this book.
The only criticism of this book that I've ever run across is that Stuart erred on the conservative side and did not include a few productive movements that are generally safe for most people.
With that said; I must tell you that this book is, hands down, the best book on lifting technique currently available anywhere on the market.
