Summary: Inspirational and Practical Running Advise
Review: The Courage to Start is a "must" read for all who are thinking about running or who have recently started, or who have been running for a long time! It gives both inspirational and practical information to motiving one to run. The book at times made me laugh, cry,and think. But most of all it made me run. To read this book is the first step to a life of running.

Summary: This is THE book on running!
Review: The Courage to Start is THE book on running! I laughed, I cried, and now I'm reading it a second time. This book is for any runner, newbie or veteran, who loves to run. Thanks John for writing a book about Penguins!

Summary: This book spoke to my soul!
Review: There have been other wonderful reviews written about this book already. All I can say is this book is so inspiring for those of us who always wanted to be athletic, but thought our chance had passed us by. I'm a 35 year old, stay at home, slightly plump mom. I've always admired runners, I always wanted to be one. But the truth is, I suck at running. This book gave me something wonderful. It gave me hope. It's a book that says so what if you suck, so what if you're slow, so what if the neighbors kid runs faster than you, and that kid runs with crutches. It's okay! If you are getting out there and putting one foot in front of the other, you're a runner!

I've been running for five months now. And I don't think I would have ever had the courage to step outside my door, take a deep breath and start jogging without this book

Summary: You'll read it more than once!
Review: This book is a wonderful mix of encouragement, wisdom, and enlightenment blended with extraordinary humor in all the right places! If this book doesn't make you think "Okay, well I could do that", then no book will be able to give you the motivation you need to start, continue, or enhance your existing running routine! I read through the book laughing out loud and re-reading tidbits of precious wisdom to anyone who was within earshot! I finished the book and immediately started it again. I raved about it to a friend who was going to loan it when I was finished but I couldn't part with it so I bought her a copy of her own. I have even placed quotes from the book on my refridgerator so I can read them often. You can't go wrong with this book! Enjoy!

Summary: Excellent book for beginners to inspire
Review: This book is an excellent piece for anyone wanting the motivation to begin running. While I found it to be less technique oriented than desired, it provided a great mental boost towards running. The author is passionate about running, and I found myself laughing out loud in quite a few places!! A very good book, eventhough it can get a little redundant and wordy in places.
