Summary: Great Inspiration!
Review: Excellent photos, and great workout advice. I've spent the last 3 months on Shawn's ABSolution workout, and the results are unmistakable. Body fat level has dropped and lean muscle mass has increased. I'm getting compliments from everyone. I'd recommend this book to anyone that is looking for a complete solution to building a better, healthier body.

Summary: Inspiring read!
Review: I expected the book to give me some excellent tips on building a six pack, it did... and much more!
I got some good information on training other body parts and also nutrition and supplementation.
I also found the book to be very inspiring and motivation and written in a real down-to-earth and honest way.
Very impressed and I will be referring back to the book on many occasions whilst following the program.

Summary: Good, but come on....
Review: It's quite obvious from the title what this book focuses on - abs.

In that way it is quite good. Shawn's explanation of abs and the exercises he gives you are quite effective.

The rest of the book is full of fluffy nothings. Pictures of Shawn and his 'nutrition' information which seems to consist of phrases like 'I just know how much to eat', 'I'm not going to go over protein, carbs, etc because that is available elsewhere'

I also have a problem with his 'food' intake. While admittadly the point of Shawn's book is 'What I do to look like this' he makes no secret of relying HEAVILY on supplements and meal replacement drinks. While there is nothing illegal or immoral about this, it would be very expensive for a person of normal income to attempt to do this on a permanent basis.

I'm a little suspicious about his information as well. While he (and his brother in the foreward) state that he keeps himself like this all year around, I have read other interviews with him where he talks about falling out of shape numerous times due to injury, lack of commitment, working/travelling too much, etc.

Indeed on a very recent mail out of his he talks about execessive travelling causing him to fall out of routine. Nothing to be ashamed of, its just that in this book he paints the picture that this never happens to him....

Summary: Plagerism -
Review: This book was a waste. it was a rewrite of BFL. I didn't learn anything new, in fact I returned the book.

too many pictures to fill space.

big disappointment.

Summary: Nice coffee table book, but I was a little let down
Review: I have been following Ken Brungardt's book "The Complete Book of Abs." I was looking for some refinements from that book, which is quite comprehensive. Although ABSolution is a a good looking book, I find it to be more about Shawn Phillips and his brother Bill than about helping me further refine my ab workout.

ABSolution is a super start for someone who has done no ab work at all. But if you are more advanced or need a structured program with a day-to-day plan, I would recomend "The Complete Book of Abs."

Summary: ABSolutely Fabulous
Review: Inspiring! That is the first word that comes to mind when I think about this book. "ABSolution" is a great book for showing us how we can get in shape. By the time you reach the end of the book you will understand that building abs is not just about exercising those "trouble" spots, it is a way of life.

The book gives complete instructions on how to build perfect abdominal muscles. It doesn't give you just abdominal exercises, it also shows you other exercises, discusses supplements, and has a great section on nutrition. The text does not go into detail about what every meal should consist of, but instead it describes how your eating patterns should be developed. This helps you focus on a lifestyle change and not a "diet". It also highlights reasons why we should not just do sit-ups for our abdominal muscles. Instead, it shows you exercises that have been proven to build those perfect abdominal muscles.

Whether you are a person with perfect "six-pack" abs or a person that could use a little workout, this book was created with you in mind. Don't hesitate to buy and read this book. I believe it holds the key to building the perfect body, as well as a great set of "abs".

Summary: One step forward
Review: I read the first chapter of the book and I was hooked right away.
Unfortunally the book wasnt avaliable in Europe so I ordered it from Amazon.com.
I waited patiently for 3 weeks to recieve my book and it finally arrived.
There was no big change from Body-for-Life - its the same philosophy - but its good exstemly good inspiration and a step forward... Im looking forward to my best abs!

Summary: Good advice, but...
Review: Good news: most of the information in this book is accurate, including the dismissal of several widely held, but incorrect beliefs i.e. body fat "spot" reduction is possible, Ab devices are necessary to increase abdominal strength, etc.

Bad news: most of the valuable information in this book could have (and already has) been published in a condensed form (10 pages) in a bodybuilding magazine. Former six-time Mr. Olympia (the SuperBowl of bodybuilding) winner Dorian Yates spent a grand total of maybe 4 pages in his excellent book, "A Warrior's Story", describing the same salient points that Shawn lists. The rest is filler 'n' fluff, with plenty of inspirational pictures of the author posing w/very attractive young women in various stages of undress.

Typically (for bodybuilding books), Shawn downplays the role of genetics (unlike Yates). Muscle belly lengths, where the muscles attach, the length of the muscles relative to the tendons, etc., all are predetermined and cannot be altered by either diet, exercise, or (gulp!) enhancement drugs. The same holds true of the abdominal muscles. Diet rigorously, include cardio, and engage in High Intensity Training (HIT), and if the reader's are lucky, they might be surprised to find that their abs look nothing at all like Shawn's. Example: the delineation between the muscle sections of the abdominal wall where the tendons attach (the infamous six-pack) may/may not be exaggerated for many people, no matter how much exercise or dietary control is included.

All in all, a good book, but please be advised that even if you follow all of Shawn's nostrums, you may still not find what you're looking for.

Summary: Not Just 'Ab-out' Abs - This is 'Ab-out' Healthy Habits
Review: I just received the book today and read the entire book in one evening. I am in the midst of the BFL challenge and love the BFL book. I think this book not only takes BFL one step further, it helps explains the hows and whys of good nutrition and exercise. The writing style is well balanced - easy to read but packed with content. The pictures are great and inspiring. Excellent book!

Summary: Rapid Results for Amazing Abs
Review: While admittedly the style and tone is much like Body-for-LIFE, there are definitely some gems of information that make this book a worthy addition to any library. For me, I was impressed with the focus and mental aspects on ab training. Does it make a difference? Definitely! While I could "almost" see my upper abs, I've struggled with tightening those lower abs for years. They just weren't as flat or as toned as I wanted them to be. After following the suggestions from this book for merely a few weeks, I've noticed an ABSolutely amazing difference. My lower abs are tight, flat, toned. For a women in her mid-30's, that's a pretty nice accomplishment. I really appreciate Shawn's exercise approach and enjoy my workouts even more today than I ever did before.
