Summary: Another excellent resource -- a companion to Solo Training
Review: If a person has this book and Christensen's Solo Training, then they have the groundwork for practicing the basic fundamentals of Karate (and other martial arts) with all the various "one-person drills" they might need to assist with technique. Certainly, one's own Sensei and system will provide bunkai, kata, and wazas or "one-steps," but these two books provide a solid foundation to use to drill yourself and monitor yourself with basic techniques. I recommend them both as essential reference for the martial artist. R, Shodan, Okinawan Shorin-Ryu

Summary: Another great book from Loren
Review: Loren is a great writer which makes all the great information fun to read as well as actually use. Sure alot of it is no big secret but it's all here. Just doing a few of these drills and exercises will improve your skills immensely. Highly recommended as well as his Solo Training book. Loren has also written lots of great reviews of other martial arts books that are honest and imformative so by all means check em out. Good job Loren. THANKS!!!

Summary: Not In Depth
Review: Loren's book had good principles that every novice should know. The only complaint that I have is that this book merely skimmed the topics and didn't go far enough into detail that was needed. I would recommend that you read this book only if you have no background knowledge whatsoever on training. I would not, however, recommend this book to any advanced student.

Summary: Fun, interesting, and useful
Review: Neat advice. Interesting and fun writing style. Useful facts, drills, and tips. As always Christensen offers solid information for serious martial artists. I liked it a lot.

Summary: Another incredible book by Loren Christensen
Review: Once again, Loren Christensen has put his money where is experience is. This book is a veritable encyclopedia of fight facts, drills and common sense. It shows that he has spent his 30 plus years experience in the martial arts training, teaching and researching. I cannot say everything about this book so it's best to keep it simple - buy it, train with it and you'll be the better for it.

Summary: Rating on fighters fact book
Review: So far I've read 2 chapters and already find a use for this book! It gives you the information on how effective the techniques are and then gives you instruction on how to execute the techniques. Definately a book worth it's money!

Summary: Reviewer: A reader from North Potomac, MD USA
Review: The reviewer needs to actually read the book before submitting a review. He obviously didn't read the book.

This book has Loren's deprecating humor through out.
His scenerio's are first hand experience. Unlike many Martial arts teachers that have never actually been in a "real" brawl.
I have no clue why the MD reviewer thought Loren was the bad guy in the story or why he thinks Loren is the adultier.
Once again, the reviewer did not read the book.

Summary: good
Review: this a good book for novice martial artists. It contains a myriad of effective drills (in other words, they work if you just do them) to help improve your power, your speed, your kicking ability as well as your sparring. However i don't believe i can recomend this book to advanced practitioners as they probably already know all this.

Summary: Many ideas, too many words, too few pictures.
Review: This book comes highly recommended, so I bought it. It was not what I expected. It has a lot of info but maybe, for a martial artist with 30 years, my standards are too high. I found it crammed with lots of ideas rather randomly which I have come across after 30 years as an avid reader of martial arts books and magazines (as well as having studied seven martial arts formally ). The pictures were disappointing. There were far too few and if there were more techniques illustrated, the book would be quite a different buy.

All said, the author is credible as a fighter/instructor. I would recommend it for younger martial artists and new black belts, not veteran instructors. Perhaps, the author would take my comments to re do the book - the intended objective is promising.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: HIGHLY Recommended.
Review: This book is a very thorough, very practical approach to self defense. It contains ideas that I would have never thought of on my own. Not only does the author include all of his years of experience as an instructor and a cop, but he adds drills and concepts from many other experienced instructors. It is a thick book that covers many subjects from different angles. As with Christensen's other books, the ideas and applications in this book are kept on a simple level and are extremely practical. For anyone who is serious about self defense and martial arts, this book is a must-have.
