Summary: Highly recommended for martial arts students
Review: Filled cover to cover with demonstrative color photographs, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Theory and Technique is a superb introduction to a specialized martial art, an invaluable martial arts reference manual, a basic "user friendly" guide and provides a practical grounding not only in the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but practical self defense as well. Written and thoroughly demonstrated by experienced black belt masters of the skill, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is fascinating, educational, and meticulously explicit in its descriptions and depictions of various holds, escapes, strikes, exercises, and so much more. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is highly recommended for martial arts students in general, and Jiu-Jitsu enthusiasts in particular.

Summary: great pictures and text!!
Review: One usualy grip with any Martial Arts book is that the photos used to illustrate a technique are poor in quality and the text is hard to follow. Not so in this book. Photos are large color shots IN FOCUS that show key elements of the technique clearly. The text is well written and complete. The folks who produced this book did a great job and have raised the standard for this genre.

This book shows the fundamentals in a clear, well organized way. What else could you want!!

Review: It's true. BJJ is pretty cool.

Summary: Yes, indeed ...
Review: Yes, indeed this is by far the best jujitsu and martial art books on the market. All the moves are well documented and the pictures are cleared. The only recommendation is that in this book both the attacker and the defenser both white 'gi'; and if one can wear different color 'gi' then it will be whole lot easier to spot the moves.
And as an avid martial arts practioner but know nothing of Brazilian jujitsu, I complement highly to the author in methodically, scientifically and convincingly in explaining why Brazilian jujitsu is the answer to the most sorted after question in the martial world without any discredit or discriminate about other martial art forms.

Summary: Excellence
Review: There is absolutely no question that this is a first-class martial arts reference book. Renzo and Royler Gracie and the writers Kid Pelligro and John Dahaher are to be congratulated for the obvious quality of this fine effort. This full-color, thick-glossy-paper, book with approximately 800 sequential instructional photos is superb. I will not take the time to replicate the words of the other glowing reviews I have seen so far. They are all true. However, I would make two style suggestions for future editions. The massive and voluminous amounts of very-well-writen explanatory text in this book is in a really TINY font. You need excellent vision and much light to read this book for any length of time without visual fatigue. I would encourage the publisher to make this text larger and easier to read in future editions. Also, the cousins Renzo and Royler Gracie, who are the models in most of the instructional color photos in the book, and are phsicially similar in appearance. Both of the Gracies wear a white gi with black belts. It is sometimes hard to sort out who is who, and what is happening in their grappling photos with the lack of color contrast between them. Otherwise, this book definitely raises the bar on martial arts publications.

Summary: By Far the Best BJJ book out there
Review: Title says it all. This is the best BJJ book available-to-date. The quality and presentation of the book is outstanding. An excellent reference for beginners and advanced alike.

Summary: It's about time!
Review: After seeing and reading SO many terrible books on jiu-jitsu and combat jiu-jitsu, I can finally stop looking. Being a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu martial artist I can vouch for the exactness and completeness of this book. It has everything! History, self-defense (standing and grappling), positions, submissions, and technique, technique, technique! This book is probably the best martial arts book I own (and I own a TON) besides Bruce Lee's Tao of Jeet Kune Do. The Gracies are the ones that started the craze, and this book shows why! BUY IT AND STUDY IT!

Summary: Simply the best BJJ book on the market.
Review: This book is first rate in every category. The techniques, photography, descriptions, and instructors are as good as it gets. This book will really help you improve your technique from the most basic of moves to the advanced. The clear photos will show you exactly what you should be doing. The only thing it left me wanting was more and more moves.

Summary: The Final Word on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Review: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Theory and Technique is by far the best book on the subject. Renzo and Royler Gracie were fortunate to have former Columbia University professor, John Danaher, help them put their ideas into words. Not only is the book an outstanding technical manual, it also provides an accurate, concise, and refreshingly well-written history of their art. Danaher and his co-author Kid Peligro should be commended for raising the standards for all martial arts books.
