Rating: Summary: Great book Review: As a student of Brazilian Jujitsu this book has been a great studyguide of the art. Quite honestly, if I could perform every technique in this book and do it well, I would be extremely happy. The only criticism of the book are the defenses against punches and grabs. I would personally just jab someone in the eye if they grabbed my wrist, but if you need a restraint technique that won't maim someone then the techniques presented here are excellent.
Rating: Summary: Perfect for beginner... Review: This is an outstanding book for beginners especially, and a good reference for those of us who practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The techniques are broken down very well, easy for anyone to understand. Of course it is helpful to have someone to try these moves on...they don't work well alone. This book is for anybody even slightly interested in BJJ. Renzo and Royler Gracie are phenomenal practitioners of the sport. This book explains everything from the history, down to drills to help with certain moves. Great book...I look through it daily, and you will too!
Rating: Summary: Finnaly!!! Review: I bought 15 books about Jiu-jitsu to get the best one, and this is it! The Gracie's are not just the best in the fights-they are the best authors. Belive me this is the best JJ book on the market-buy to check it.
Rating: Summary: All right Review: wery nice and in depht chapter about theory and history, and some excellent teqnicues described with wery clear colour photos, makes this a book that is absolutly worth buying, espescially if you are an outsider or a beginner in this art. I do however wonder where the "white belt" tecniques where, i think it is a litle odd to show the blue to black stages, just skipping the white, wich are the fundamentals. I have however found a lot of things that where new to me, that i will atempt to incorporate in my daily training.
Rating: Summary: Simply the best Review: Not just the best in real combat, the Gracie's books are the best in theory of Jiu-jitsu. Even the photos in the book are the finest and most teacherable I ever seen in Jiu-jitsu books. If you want to buy other Jiu books, try this one first.
Rating: Summary: I love this book, especially for sparring with a partner Review: I read the whole book, and practiced every move with a partner, and when it came down to GI on GI sparring, the information in the book is very helpful...tons of grappling techniques, counters, sweeps, and all of the sweeps in the book are very effective if applied properly...The book is descently organized and this book is great if you just want to spar with a partner for sport or for excercise. This book is great for beginners, because it goes through the basics to advanced stuff, from falling down properly to to "triangle choke". This book is awsome, and I'd recommend it to any Brazilian Jiu-jitsu practicioner, even just for reference if you're advanced. again this is a "Gi only" book...I'd recommend a "no gi" book to go along with this one
Rating: Summary: rather outdated Review: Very well prepared book. It is divided into belts. The problem is; when you advance in the book the techniques are outdated in our days. Three or more years ago probably it was ok. For an advanced fighter many of these techniques for higher belts have counters. If you are a novice fighter first read the other book of Renzo Gracie, Mastering Jujitsu, then add some techniques to your baggage form this.
Rating: Summary: Masterpeice!! Review: What a great book! John Danaher did a great job with the writing - everything from technique to strategy is made crystal clear. I read the book at work and travel and always seem to pick up something new. The best jiu jitsu book I have seen.
Rating: Summary: A Fantastic Book for the Beginner and Expert Review: The book is basicly broken down by belt sections. It has a specific section for each belt color and moves that each belt should be familiar with (note that there are moves in the purple and brown section that even the seasoned white belt should be familiar with.) Each move is explained in great detail with what and what not to do when performing each drill and the pictures walk you through each move. In addition, there is even a brief section at the beginning that delves into the history of BJJ and the Gracie family. It makes a great reference book to have on your shelf and is definitely worth the money.
Rating: Summary: A masterpiece... Review: A wonderful collection of devastating techniques and exquisite pictures. The techniques shown are wonderful and gives a fantastic foundation in the art, all shown in beautiful, detailed pictues. A must-have for anyone interested in the art as a beginner or an experienced practitioner looking to hone his skill.
