Summary: This is an excellent autobiography done by Arnold in 1977
Review: This is an excellent autobiography done by Arnold in 1977 - before he 'made it' in the movies. It also includes some excellent training information. This is a very interesting and inspirational account of Arnold's life, from youth to 'The World's greatest bodybuilder'. If you have any interest in Arnold this is a must read. NBAF 'best'.

This book contains all you need to know about how to safely get into bodybuilding, or simply how to get fitter and firm up your body. With detailed training plans that I am using and seeing the benefits from, to simple diets that teach you what to eat and why, this book takes you step-by-step into the world of the body builder. Summary: Revealing Autobiography Of Big Arnie!
Review: When this book was first released in the late 1970s, Arnold had yet to embark on a serious movie career, with only the starring role in "Pumping Iron" under his belt, and that being a limited success at that, playing only in art cinema houses and in limited distribution. It was long before his actual starring role in "Conan" (which had been rumored for years in bodybuilding circles before it finally came to fruition in the early 1980s. So it is interesting to read of the specificity of his plans and his supreme confidence in himself and his ability to succeed at anything he chooses in this well-scribed ghostwritten autobiography published long before.

Those of us who had become familiar with Arnold and his progress in the public domain knew the world was hardy prepared for this steamroller of a human being, a man for whom the normal rules simply do not seem to apply. Other famous bodybuilders had tried to use their muscles and brawn to jump-start a Hollywood career, and although several such as Steve Reeves and Gordon Scott had been major stars in action films during the 1960s, neither was able to translate what was in actuality a brief spurt of public interest in men with superior physiques into a sustaining career.

Yet from the beginning there was something about Arnie that defied the rules other mortals belabored under. Using the modest investment cash gained from the sale of his small gym in Munich to start himself, Schwarzenegger bought an apartment building and soon bought more property, growing up into the booming California real estate market in a way that propelled him into the ranks of the wealthy long before he ever read a movie script. Similarly, he and bodybuilding buddy Franco Columbo started a masonry business in Santa Monica, putting their brains and brawn to active work, and raking in the resulting financial dividends, reinvesting them to make the money work as hard as they did. This was no ordinary muscleman, and indeed, no ordinary young man. As George Butler reveals in his book "Arnold Schwarzenegger: A Portrait", Arnold was more focused and driven than anyone he had ever been introduced to.

Instead, what we are treated to here is the real man behind all of the miscalculations and misrepresentations of the media, a man extremely driven to succeed in America, and willing to make the sacrifices to do it. Many people have underestimated him, only to find out later that there is much more to the man than an Austrian accent and a huge bicep. If a guy with a last name like Schwarzenegger can so beguile the public to become one of the biggest movie stars of the 1980s and 1990s, than perhaps we do have to recognize that America is still the land of opportunity. The latest rumblings have him interested once more in running for political office, most likely for the Governorship in California. Yet it is perhaps too soon to assume he is finished as a movie star. He is currently filming "T-3', the third of the Terminator movies, and has plans to also make a third Conan epic. If either of those is a big a success as is possible, than perhaps he will stick around for a while. And for those of you that think he is to old to look like Conan in his mid fifties, just remember, those who underestimate this guy are usually wrong. Enjoy!

Summary: Arnold vs Sergio
Review: Without a doubt, still one of the most talked about muscle battles of all time was the epic battles of Arnold vs Sergio Oliva "The Myth" as Ricky Wayne had named him.

I had the privledge of seeing Arnold vs Sergio Battle #1 in September of 1969 at the old Brooklyn Academy of Music in Brooklyn, NY. Weider had been building up this contest for an entire year. It was Arnold the NABBA Mr. Universe vs Sergio 2 time IFBB Mr. Olympia, Mr. World and Mr. Universe- The clash of the champions.

In education of a bodybuilder, Arnold says he was blown away on his first sight of Sergio Oliva. Sitting in the audience, it didn't seem that way. Arnold would come out first in the Mr. Universe, hit four quick poses wave and walk off stage indicating that he was saving himself for the Mr. Olympia.

When it came time for the Mr. Olympia, Franco Columbo would come out first. Arnold was next and blew away the audience. The audience was spellbound seeing this massive hulk showing abs and new for Arnold at that time, legs! Seeing Arnold pose was like seeing a much larger Frank Zane. Symetry, cuts and mass like we had never seen before!

Then Sergio came out and it was like King Kong was back in NY! People in the audience responded with "oh my God!" Oliva would hit four quick power poses and was suddenly escorted off by Don Peters, a Mr. America contestant.

Then all three combatants would come back for the epic posedown. Arnold would gently wave his little buddy Franco Columbo aside indicating that this was a battle of the big guys and Arnold and Sergio went at it pose for pose. Arnold even matched Sergio in Oliva's pet poses and more than held his own!

At one point Arnold stepped in front of Sergio and hit his famous "side chest pose" and literally made Sergio disappear! In no way did Arnold seem afraid of Oliva. If he was, he sure concealed it well.

Arnold would lose that first battle on a 5-4 vote out of 9 judges and showed incredible sportsmanship by running out on stage, congratulating Sergio and raising Oliva's hand in victory! Now that is sportsmanship!

In Arnold vs Sergio II, it was Arnold all the way. First in the AAU Mr. World contest held in Columbus, Ohio and again two weeks later in lower Manhatten in the Town Hall Theatre Arnold was the unanamous winner. Sergio showed up smooth in Columbus and smoother in NY. Arnold won easily in both events.

Education of a Bodybuilder is a good biography of Arnold. If you can see it, I also recommend See Arnold Run currently airing on the A&E network. This tv movie showcases Arnold's training for the 1974 Mr. Olympia and running for the 2003 governor of California. It shows Arnold's incredible drive and determination. It also indicates what Arnold had to overcome both in politics and in bodybuilding to reach his goals.
