Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: A great book with one exception. I purchased the First edition of this book and used it as a guideline for my 1st marathon. In preparation for a 2nd marathon, now several years later, I purchased the second edition as I lost the first book. I was disappointed to discover that this edition does not include a marathon Training Program.

Rating: Summary: Best Book on how to Train, Recover, Eat and Run Again Review: A very easy to follow guide book on training for your particular event. Not over whelming in minutia but covers the facts in straight forward communication. I particularly enjoyed Galloway's approach to marathon training; however, I could not bring myself to run over 26 in training as he prescribes, but it makes sense to finish the race psychologically and phsyically strong. Nice large pages with diagrams that covers a variety of topics including injuries, how to recover and how to avoid them. As a distance runner, Galloway is careful with speed workouts as too much stress in a speed workout can lead to quicker path to injury. Very approachable book by runners at all levels by a guy that represented the U.S. in the 1972 Olympic 10K. One of the famous Florida Track Club members that included Frank Shorter and Jack Bachelor.
Rating: Summary: The only running book I own Review: An excellent source for runners of any ability level. I bought it when I first started running, and still have it 5 years and one marathon later. It teaches you how to get started running, and how to keep running interesting. Contains charts to help you train for your 10K or Marathon, based on your ability and time goal. Includes a section on women's running and running injuries. Jeff's a real heavyweight in the running world, and has written the only running book that you need. If that's not enough, Jeff's stories are very inspiring as well.
Rating: Summary: Perfect for all Runners Review: Galloway's Book got me started running in the eighth grade. I'm now in my second year on the highschool cross-country team and I still find myself picking this one of the shelf for help. There is perfect advice, insight, and ideas for all areas of the sport; training, form, shoes, food. Put simply, Galloway's Book has everything for the young or old, beginning or advanced, spare time or serious runner except the shoes.
Rating: Summary: Just Do It! Review: Great book of common sense and counter-intuitive ideas that work. Shows you how to run a marathon without hitting the wall. (You break the wall down on your long training runs). Explains how to run faster times by running slow (at the start). Shows a variety of fun approaches to maximize fitness. Great charts and guidelines are included to lead you to success. I liked the First Edition so much I lent mine to a friend. I am buying the Second edition now. Galloway's book is a great lifetime reference book to have on hand.

Rating: Summary: Can't live without this book! Review: I am buying another copy of this book as I've lent mine out and can't locate its whereabouts. I cannot tell you how many people have borrowed this book from me and have gone on to either run marathons or just become better runners. I received it as a birthday gift from a runner friend more than 10 years ago and went from 2-mile occasional runs to running a marathon just six months later. Galloway's love for the sport is contagious, and the book very informative in terms of how to maintain form, avoid injuries, plus fool-proof schedules for building up to a marathon.
Rating: Summary: Helped me with my first marathon. Review: I bought this book when I started training for my first marathon 9 months ago. It has gotten me to the starting line and through one injury during that period of time. A GREAT book for the person who has just found the runner inside of them.
Rating: Summary: Galloway's book is very comprehensive Review: I have been a runner for 25 years and I have read the odd running book. I teach a 'begin to run' course so I was looking for beginners. I was amazed how much I learned from this book. Even though it is almost 20 years old the information is very relevant. I enjoyed how it is written. I recommend it to beginners and enthusiasts alike.
