Summary: excellent book. Motivated me to walk the appalachian trail

Summary: This book is VERY mediocre
Review: I bought it because it was noted that people that bought a book that I REALLY got alot out of (The Mental Edge) also bought this one.

After reading the other book, this was a let-down. It was not as concise as the others.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: OVER RATED!
Review: I don't know what these people are reading that call this a great book?! There are other books in this same category that are MUCH better writen, easier to understand, and have more actual excercises and less psycho-bable. I sent this one back for a refund. Loehr must have had his family write the earlier reviews!

Summary: It was OK
Review: It was pretty good, but there was way too much psycho-babble. The toughness training assignments were helpful. It seems like if you followed his recommendations exactly you would improve your mental performance. However, the book did seem repetitive (each chapter seemed to be about the same thing as the last).

Summary: A good book, but the original was far better.
Review: The 'new' version has neglected some of the best parts of the original. The discussion of energy is good in the "new" one but great in the original; the discussion of energy is ok in the new but great in the old; in particular the detailed red and blue zones of the IPS are nowhere to be found in the new version. Jim Loehr is a sports psyche genius and he first book appears to be his best.

Summary: A little over the edge...
Review: This book has a lot of terms and things that don't make a lot of sense. The intentions in this are great, but I want a book that is straightforward. The exercises aren't bad, but the talk isn't all that motivational.

Summary: Layman's psychology
Review: This book kept me sane! I am an international referee in Judo. Being female in a male dominated sport requires the usual 150% performance! When the going gets tough this book's advice is invaluable.

I also coach teenagers, and my students benefit from James Leohr's confidence building techniques.

Summary: So-so, look at others before you buy
Review: This book was so-so. It contained a lot of highly basic material. I was not really impressed with Dr. Loehr's theories about sport. It seemed that he did not have much access to sport himself. The examples that were given were very modest and could have used some help. I would only reccommend this book to someone who has rarely particiapted in sports...too basic for the advanced.
