Summary: Encyclopedia of Dim-Mak
Review: As a master instructor in the martial arts and as a police officer survival skills instructor, I have the training, experience and knowledge to train almost any technique of self-defense. I found my pressure point strikes and control holds to be my weakest knowledge base, so I purchased this encyclopedia and that is exactly what this book is, an exteremely informative encyclopedia. It is full of pressure point meridians and applications of such. But, it is like studying a text book from medical school. I am a working cop & a part time graduate student working toward a doctoral degree in adult education and this book has more knowledge listed than most of the $100.00 text books I must purchase for school. I have yet to complete the entire text, and wonder if I will ever get around to it. So, the book is worth every penny to those individuals willing to read and re-read the material and willing to committ to memory all of the meridians and application of said. The author has done an excellent job of compiling data and presenting detailed photos and illustrations, along with the appropriate text. This book is not for the novice or the quick fix type person, it will require alot of study and practice with an enlightened instructor. Buy the book.

Summary: The most useful book I have bought in years
Review: As a student of healing an acupunture this book has helped me memorize the meridian points and the healing/destructive aspects. I do believe that as a person that works in a corrections instutition that not everybody should have access to these techniques. As far as an emergency life or death situation, Iam certianlly glad I have studied this text. I have both texts and feel like Erle is the most up-front and factual writer of martial arts, He leaves the Airy-fairy behind and the Mortal Kombat BS behind also.

Summary: Think about it... please!
Review: Assuming that Dim-Mak pre-dates modern weaponry, would it not be reasonable to assume that such knowledge would make an army veritably invincible? Anyone recall reading about an invincible army? No. Why? One can kill during hand to hand combat, but not by means of acupressure. I rank this book right up there with Santa Claus and really bad K'ung F'u movies. By the way, it's also impossible to jump 12 ft up in the air and land on a tree branch backwards. Don't believe everything you see. The shortcut to true martial art proficiency lies in practice coupled with devotion. Direct your time and studies wisely.

Summary: Excellent Book for the Serious Student
Review: Excellent book for locating the Dim Mak points and for understanding what they can do. Erle's tapes on Dim Mak show how to use these points for self defense and either a study based on the tapes or else training from one of Erle's students is necessary to fully understand their application. It's interesting that many of the points don't have to be hit precisely, and some don't even require much force! Others, however require an ability to hit with Fa-jing power. Very good reference. Erle's taichiworld.com web site has a lot of additional information as well.

Summary: Really good stuff
Review: Great book. One of the best books on MA to this date (of these I am aware of). If you are interested in death point striking, this is must for you. Well, it will not teach you how to defend yourself! It will not teach you about Fa Jin and other related subjects.

It is the Encyclopedia not training manual...

Summary: Teaching of the book
Review: I found this book very eduactional and very discriptive. The way the author shows exact detail is vital in learning the way of dim-mak. This book will show you exactly where the point is on the body and will tell you what other points you can hit to make the hit more destructive. I also love how he tells you how destructive it will be by how hard you hit the point. An example of this is on the point GB 6 on the head "This point is getting close to a point just above the ear that will cause a "delayed death strike." Dalayed death strikes ahve been talked about in a mystical sense for years. However, the efects of ost of these strikes are scientifically proven, as is the case with the strike ot Gb 6 adn other points in this region of the head. The small middle meningeal artery, which is reight in this vicinity, about 3/4 inch above the ear, will burst when struck, causing blood to seep into the brain. It takes around three days to fill the brain sufficiently to cause death. NOTE: If this artery has been broken, it is diagnosed by looking at the pupils to see shether they change in size. This are of the head also houses alot of important brain stuff, so a strike here is not only an electrical strike, affecting the qi system of the body, but an excellent physiological strike as well." As you can see the author is very desciptive on what each and ever point will do. Also in this book there are about 5 illustrations for every point being taught in the book. The amount of points is probably close to 1,000 so basically there are alot of pictures.

I have been studing the martial arts and is currently a 1st degree brown belt at Karate Plus in Superior Wisconsin and have found this book very helpful in teaching the way of Dim-Mak.
