Rating: Summary: Play Smart, Score Better and Have Some Fun for a Change! Review: Bob Rotella's book opens the door for the uninitiated on what you should and should not be thinking about while playing a round. He has some marvelous tips about what kinds of attitudes you have to have to get past the bad shot we all hit without letting it color (and wreck!) the rest of the round. He will also help you structure your practice time, so that it will have a positive impact on your scoring. Start to finish this quick read will have you itching to implement his suggestions. This is a "must read" for anybody who has aspirations of being a better golfer. I bought four copies for my golfing relatives. What else can I say? Buy this book.
Rating: Summary: Super book, although it screwed up my putting completely Review: Target Golf is what this one is all about and it works wonders. Always have a target and always think target, ball, contact. Dr. Bob advocates a pure-feel approach to putting which when I tried it messed up my putting something awful. But that's just me. That's the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars from me.
Rating: Summary: Playing Golf in the Zone Review: The most enjoyable golf you can play is effortless and pressure free. "Doc" Rotella's "Golf Is Not a Game of Perfect" has literally liberated me from myself. I was definitely in my own way, halting my own progress. My swing coach brought me from a 35 handicap to a 16 handicap in two summers. Doc brought me down to a 10 handicap in six weeks, and I am still improving. Two key facets in the book grabbed me. First is, "The best swing thought is no swing thought!" This was riveting and when I finally let go and trust my swing, the ball went longer and straighter. Consistency and lower scores were the result. The second facet dealt with putting. Doc emphasized "When you land the green, hole the put, no matter the distance!" What a confidence and result booster!! My goal was to become a single digit handicapper by the end of summer 2001. I still have three weeks to lose one stroke and achieve my goal. I am convinced it will happen. On June 26th, I had a milestone. After reading Doc's book, I shot my first ever and only sub-par round of 35 for nine holes on a par 36 executive course here in Indianapolis. I had a playing partner and asked him to sign the card. It is now framed and sitting in my office. That was fun. Thanks Doc!! -Gary in Indianapolis.
Rating: Summary: The Most Important Lesson Review: As a 12.5 index golfer, I've been stuck for the past few years, sometimes playing close to par, sometimes into the 90s. What this book taught me is to stop giving myself an on-course swing technique workshop when I play and, well, just play. I'm hitting the ball straighter, hitting more greens, making more putts because I'm taking Rotella's advice, clearing my mind of swing thoughts and just going for the target. Golf's more fun to play this way. The book is liberating, replete with common sense, and you can implement its ideas immediately.
Rating: Summary: Take It From the Best-Doc Knows the Mental Side of Golf Review: Legends such as Kite and Nick Price and Pat Bradley value their association with Doc Rotella. This was the book that kicked off his success on the book market and helped the rest of us.He shows how the mental approach for many of us is an "either/or" thing. Either we have the game that day, we're on, or we loosen up a bit and it's over. We don't try and we spiral downward in disgust with ourselves. He clearly shows through examples with the likes of Faxon and DL3 that golf is never going to be the perfect round, so why do we always blame ourselves when that first shot goes haywire? That's where this mind help comes in. He helps with mindset on the first tee to what to do when challenge shot is staring us in the eye. This is useful stuff to read and re-read and implement.
Rating: Summary: Sure cure for a golfing nut case! Review: I was a mental midget on the golf course. Despite my low handicap, I was capable of shooting 90 anytime out. My swing and tempo would just go away. Sometimes only for a few holes, sometimes for a few weeks. It all had to do with my mental approach. I would go "unconscience" for weeks and shoot my standard round in the 70's, then I would wake up and decide to "think", and all of the sudden I was a mess. The guys at my club called me Jekyll or Hyde, depending on who I was that day. I won my club championship in 1995, finished 2nd in 1998, then failed to qualify by shooting 92 in 1999. I was almost ready to go to a shrink, and I considered being hypnotized. I went to a local pro that I knew casually for a lesson, and he told me after 10 swings that I was fine physically. I told him about my troubles. He confirmed that I had mental issues on the course, and instead of nitpicking a with a solid swing, he recommended I read this book. He even gave me his copy. I got through it in 2 sittings, bought my own, and now refer to it often. I have attained a tremendous level of consistency and rediscovered my confidence. My USGA handicap has dropped back to the 4's. I am thrilled, because I went as high as 9 after a month of complete futility last season. The only reason it stayed that low was because they toss out your 10 highest scores from your last 20 rounds when computing the handicap. My average score was almost 12 shots higher than the previous year. I don't have the vocabulary required to adequately praise this book. All I can say is BUY IT! I still can not believe what it did for me. I haven't had any funky spells since reading it, and my entire approach to the game has changed for the better. Good luck.
Rating: Summary: Still Hacking, But Loving It Review: A terrific book for any golfer, of any ability. While I haven't seen my handicap drop by 15 strokes, I have seen my enjoyment of each round increase dramatically. Rotella's book has helped me put the bad shots behind me, and play a smarter game. Best of all, the lessons are easily transferrable to life off the links. I've got my copy on my bookshelf (ok, on the back of my toilet), right next to Mr. Penick's Little Red Book.
Rating: Summary: Ultimate Golf Review: I am a keen golfer from Ireland. I play with men who have been playing since they where children. Normally they would just carry me along for the chat and have a bit of a joke about my game. I never came any where near close to winning. Untill I picked up this book. The men are amazed at how much my game had improved in such a little time. Others have been playing since they where children, I have been playing 4 months but still I am one of the best in the club.
Rating: Summary: Should be required reading! Review: I read this book while working on an article for my golf site at BellaOnline. It totally changed my game. I have put several of the ideas from this book to work in my own game, and the improvement is astounding! This book should come with every set of golf clubs you buy.
Rating: Summary: A great-green book Review: "A great green book" I have to call this book like that.I think every golfers have to read this book if they want to play golf "sucessfully";I mean joyable in game and lower your scores as possible. I have played golf for 3 years and now are a 17- handicap amateur player.I have been very happy when my scores is good , occasionally I can break 80, and once I had my first hole-in-one.In the other way,I feel very unhappy, frustated when I could not play well, sometimes nearly 100. After I read this book, I can be very happy and joyable in game either the scores is good or not.Actuallly,I observe that in average my scores is much improved.I have a dream of being a single-handicap in the next 4-5 years. But now ,after I have this great green book ,I think I can reach my dream within 1-2 years.
