Rating: Summary: The best Golf book ever, Period. Review: As weekend hackers or duff rolers, whatever you like to call yourselves this is the book for you. I am a weekend hacker who is obsessed with improving my game. I rent all the tapes and try all the fads, anything to find that secrete that will help to lower my score. I have never found anything that works until now. This books not only tells you how the golf swing works it tells you how it feels. In my mind this is the only way you can learn to play golf correctly. You can't just go to a pro and let him show you what to do. To be effective he has to tell you how it feels when he does things. Now this is very hard for most pros to do (after all their swings are natural) but Hogan does a wonderful job of explaing the feeling of the way golf should be played.Bravo Mr. Hogan, and I wish you well at the big golf course in the sky.
Rating: Summary: Great little book. Review: This book is like a wonderfully written simple, declarative sentence. It is direct, to the point, and explanatory. The narrative is the best I have ever read in any golf book. The illustrations, though primitive in design, are exceptionally good. This book lacks the glamour the the newer, glossy-photo laden tomes, but is much more helpful. As a beginning golfer, I found it perfect in explaining the very fundamental pricniples of golf.
Rating: Summary: clear, concise, useful information for all golfers Review: As a rank beginner, I bought this book to get an idea of the vocabulary of golf and as a guide to what was most important to learn. My teacher had also studied this book and followed Mr. Hogan's ideas on mechanics and fundamentals. I expect it to be a lifelong guide and review to keep my game improving.
Rating: Summary: Superb use of language and illustration. Review: This book is organized very well. The instructions are concise and to the point and still it is a joy to read. The illustrations have a classic look to them (which I think are cool), but are very accurate. Good for the beginner to build solid fundamentals and good for the continuing student as a fundamental check. I read it at least once a month.
Rating: Summary: Finest Golf Instruction Book Ever Written Review: I have played golf for 25 years and have bought dozens of golf instructional books. There is only one book I always come back to - and that is Five Lessons. This book set and will forever set the standard for golf instruction and golf swings. It is very simple and all one needs to take one's game to the highest level desired.
Rating: Summary: Solid, back to basic golf by the master. Review: First read this in the late 60's. A great instuctional book. More than one pro has commented when asked if there were one good instructional book to recommend . . . Hogan's Modern Fundamentals tops the list!
Rating: Summary: the best instructional book i have ever read. Review: Hogan explains the porper (neutral) grip in expert detail. The key move for me was taking the club back and starting the swing with the hips, preventing you from coming over the top. This book is great for anyone who wants to improve their swing and game. I wished he would have mentioned putting. Perhaps in his next book.
Rating: Summary: best golf instruction book I have ever read Review: If you want to improve your game, this is the book. Upon finishing this book and heeding the instructions, the first time I went out I shot 1 over after 3 holes. Then my back went out, but I still shot below my average round. Most exciting was the feel of hitting drives that start low and gradually rise just like the pros. I am a slicer by trade, but found with my new swing I had a slight draw. I would highly recommend this book for learning the most important part of golf, a good repeating swing.
