Rating: Summary: Because I lost my legs in the war, I needed extra help. Review: I had a hard time riding horse after the torpedo accident, but after reading this book, I was mounting and jumping my horse all day. This book is filled with techniques for getting on the horse, and getting her to do all sorts of tricks. Some of the tricks covered in this book include: Rolling over Sitting up Jumping fences Drinking stale water If you can lead a horse to stale water and make her drink, you have mastered this book. My horse was drinking stale water within weeks of me reading this book. Thanks Amazon.com.
Rating: Summary: Excellent - another must have. Review: I haven't even finished reading this book yet, but I just have to say how fabulous it is. I have just started my youngster over fences and have found this guide invaluable already, with 25 exercises involving just ground poles, it is already well used. The exercises build up in difficulty so you are always making progress and at the same time having fun and educational schooling sessions with your horse. I think there is something for everyone, beginner to advanced.
As a budget conscious rider training predominantly on my own, I have found these types of guides priceless (see my other reviews) and they have really helped me to formulate a schooling plan each week and our progress has been very rewarding. I noticed that other riders at the barn were using the poles I left out in the arena and so I started posting the excercises on the bulleting board each week - inspiring everyone and creating great feedback and support. I know this is a book I will get a lot of use out of!
Rating: Summary: This is one to refer to often... Review: Linda Allen puts many of her ideas into print and compiles some great exercises from other great horse folks. Rating: Summary: Excellent exercises for riders new and old Review: The layout, illustrations and occasional words of wisdom found in this book can only help develop positive results for both horse and rider. What I especially liked is the variety of exercises and the gradual progression from basic fundamentals to the challenge levels. More importantly though, after three months of practicing some of the more basic and intermediary flatwork exercises with my four year old horse, the results are obvious even to the greenest of eyes. With no boredom setting in! Truly a well thought out book of exercises that ought be part of any training programme for horse and rider development.
