Rating: Summary: Great pictures of Bruce Review: I could only give this book 3 stars because Bruce contradicts his teachings now and then. Most of the techniques are simple and straight forward, however, sometimes he'll throw in a kick to the face when it would be dangerous to do so. It makes for a good picture and that's what I like most about the book. Most pages have 2 or 3 photos of Bruce. Even in photographs I love to watch him perform. He was a great martial artist and all his intensity and expertise show through in the photographs. The book is laid out in a clear, easy to follow format. Beginners will get the most out of it. For more experienced martial artists, enjoy the pictures. Ted Weimann, author of Warrior Speed
Rating: Summary: Self Defense Review: I liked the book a lot. There were a few techniques that I had a harrd time understanding the first time through, but I think that they are pretty effective. Some may disagree, but hey, that's what this forum is for. The book was NOT meant to be, in itself, an instructor. No book can do that. You have to understand that and look at the book as a supplement to your current training.
Rating: Summary: Great for the Beginner and Experienced Alike Review: I've studied tae kwon do ever since I was 4 since I have Korean background. After that, I followed Bruce Lee's "do what works for you" method and learned wing chun and tai chi and my fighting style incorporates a little of everything. Bruce Lee's JKD was a bit like that and he did what was best for him. Now this book presents his fighting style in a clean, organized way. The photos are clean and the text teaches the beginner basic moves that you can do when an attacker approaches you. I suggest you get the other volumes and it'll make your martial arts smarter, faster, and more explosive.
Rating: Summary: Works well if you have Bruce Lee's speed and power Review: If you're a mere mortal and consequently do not possess the speed and power of Bruce Lee, then I don't recommend this book as a self defense guide. Choose another book or video based on striking (or grappling if that is your preference).
Rating: Summary: Works well if you have Bruce Lee's speed and power Review: In all honesty, I wonder if the other reviewers on here are rating the same book that I read. This book is a collection of photo's of Bruce, in many normal streetfighting situations. And in each situation Bruce does a combination of photographed moves. Out of 125 pages, the book goes over possibly 40-50 situations. I really, really like the other books in the series, but volume 1 is a bust, and a complete waste. Save your money for Tao of Jeet Kune Do. I only learned 2 things from this book. (1) Bruce loves to kick and (2) Bruce tells his students to attack in any way possible (ie. eye gouging, hair pulling, clawing).

Rating: Summary: Required reading Review: IN MEMORY OF MARIO PONTILLO Since the late 1970's, I have studied Mr. Lee's "Way of the Intercepting fist." I have the 1st editions of all the "best" books on Bruce's work. This book will walk you through the physical aspect of his methods. I recommend you get all the volumes from this series. You will need to start from the beginning; and you do that by emptying your cup so Bruce may fill it. My favorite quote: "Knowing is not enough, you must apply; willing is not enough, you must do." -Bruce Lee Please do not hesitate to check out my Poetry book that I published while in the U.S. Navy in 2003; "Under the Rose: Poetry of Tragedy, Essence, and Romance"

Rating: Summary: Bruce Lee Review: It may look like it contradicts JKD, but JKD concepts are different, based in simplicity yet complex to the one taking the hits and grabs. Many of Bruce Lees students and training partners will tell you that he fought completely different from his movies. This book will show you what to really do.
Rating: Summary: That person who thinks this is a wast of money and time Review: Let me tell you something BRUCE LEE PUT HARD WORK INTO TO HIS MARTIAL arts and you must respecta that. He is the worlds best. AND I AM SURE THAT NO ONE COULD BEAT HIM EVEN IF HER WERE ALIVE TODAY! 1 The books written by him explain pretty well on how to defend your self and it gives you a good idea what the martial arts is! I want to thank Bruce Lee for the outcome he on life and to the people of the world!
