Rating: Summary: The Pocket Rocket Review: Anyone over 21 years old should use this book as a guide for stretching. As a over 50 year old golfer who has been playing the game for over 30 years,I can attest that the lack of flexibility is the singe greatest hinderence in maintaining consistent play. Golf Flex has given me a simple and quick warm-up and stretching routine that will serve me for a life time. It does take some pratice to learn the stretches, but anything worth while takes a bit of effort. As Golf Flex says 'the greatest piece of equitment you possess is your body'.
Rating: Summary: Lower your handicap and enjoy the game more Review: At 49 years old and lately suffering more of the pains of my college sports injuries, by following the stretching exercises in this book not only is my golf game better (handicap is dropping from 14 fast); but I feel much better in general. I had a rotator cuff injury from baseball that would not go away despite visiting the orthopedic surgeon and doing all the prescribed exercizes. If you follow the stretches in this book it will fix you up. Virtually all the soreness in my sholder has disappeared and I'm hitting the ball much better. Smoother swing too! Not only for golf, you'll feel better in general. The exercizes are easy, not time consuming and make an immediate positive difference. I highly recommend it. This book belongs next to Ben Hogan's "Five Lessons".
Rating: Summary: Correct aim, poorly executed Review: Being a hack golfer I'm open to anything that will help my game. Although I do stretch prior to every game, I was doing only the stretches I was familiar with from years of playing raquetball and suspected I was missing some key stretches for pre- and post golf. In other words, I know I could do a better job. This book could have been so much better! It's not awful, but the one star is awarded because it pales in comparison to other tomes available. This is just a book with a marketing angle. To borrow from another local sport: I took the bait, they set the hook. Golf? Stretching? That's me! (This is a good time to give me that dope-slap.) I either didn't understand the instructions or it's not a 10 minute a day program. The first time I attempted the program it took me 45 minutes to complete...I was definitely stretched out but I was also quite short on time. I can't devote that much time every day to a stretching regimen. It's possible that I was suppose to go through several of the exercises faster than I did. If that was the case, I don't think I'd get the benefit of the stretch. After purchasing this book, I put more focus on finding a good book on stretching for golf. I found it. Get Bob Anderson's "Stretching". The book is well written, concise, and clear. (Time for another dope slap: It's considered the best on the market.) Plus, there are clearly described stretching programs for almost every atheletic endeavor...from bowling to football to windsurfing. I wish I hadn't wasted my money on "Golf Flex", but at least it was cheap.
Rating: Summary: Golf Flex , Ten Minutes a Day to Better Play Review: Golf Flex was developed out of necessity. As my golfing clients rolled in on Monday mornings complaining of scoreness and pain after playing a couple of rounds of golf on weekends. I encouraged them to stretch. The response I always got was "Of course I stretch. Everyone stretches before the game. Thats nothing new". So if they where stretching why were they always banged up and sore? So I asked them how they stretched. The response was always the same "Oh well,I...uh you know,uh...do some of these and then I swing the club around, and...uh, you know, loosen up." It was pretty obvious that they didn't have a handle on what they were doing. Golfers know golf, not stretching. It was apparent they had no systematic approach to stretching, one that they could follow in a safe and effective way. I developed Golf Flex so that golfers could understand and preform stretches in a clear and simple manner. What most recreational golfers don't understand is that golfing is a highly athletic event. The energy of hitting a golf ball 300 yard is the equal to hitting a baseball 300 feet. A 10 handicap golfer will take 30 to 50 hard swings per round. Golfer walk close to 8,000 yards per round, a center fielder less then 2000 back and forth to the dugout.Although golf has less intensity than baseball it has a higher energy output. The handicap scores for the average male and female golfer has not improved in over 16 years! Despite the technological advances. The most valuable piece of equitment golfers posess is their bodies. Flexibility is the most important aspect of a good golf swing.Properly stretching before a game will prepare the body for the athletic activity of swinging a golf club over 100 miles per hour.It will also reduce risk of injuries and increase body awareness. Stretching after a game will reduce muscle tension and scoreness. You will need no devices or gimicks. The 90 billon dollar golf industry will have to survive without your bucks. I sincerly hope you try to incorporate Golf Flex as part of your golf game. I have see great results with golfer of all ages. Please feel free to write me for any advice. In health and fitness, Paul Frediani
Rating: Summary: AWESOME BOOK!!!PART TIME GOLFER. Review: GOLFLEX IS VERY EASY TO READ AND GETS RIGHT TO THE POINT.A MUST READ FOR GOLFERS AND ALL ATHLETES.MY FLEXIBILITY INCREASED IN NO TIME AND IT TOOK ONLY A FEW MINUTES A DAY.
Rating: Summary: Great for all golfers. Review: Having played golf for many years, I've learned that the golf swing is not the most natural movement for the human body. Since we spend most of our time on the golf course twisting our spine into a corkscrew, doesn't it make sense that we should be as flexible as possible? Golf Flex covers everything a golfer needs to do to reduce injuries and improve their swing. My Dad and his rotator cuff will receive a copy as will my friend and his bad back. The author obviously knows his craft and I can't understand why someone didn't tell us this stuff sooner - more flexibility means more control over your swing and more distance on the course.
Rating: Summary: The road less traveled Review: Here is an interesting route to finding the benefits of Golf Flex. I bought this book several years ago because of my back and shoulder pain kept me from playing golf. I thought it to be overly simple, quite honestly didn't think much of it. Played around with it for a few days then let it collect dust. Recently I spent 2 weeks in a health resort. Every morning we performed either tai chi or something know as the Five Tibetans. Very soothing movement with stretching. After two weeks my back pain was gone and my shoulder felt much better. After coming back home I decided that I would try golf again. I picked up Golf Flex again and it was then it dawned on me that the stretches and the movement were quite similar to what I was doing at the health resort. I've continued with the Golf Flex stretch everyday, not only for pre game stretching, but its the first thing I do in the morning. I've added some other movements that I learned in tai chi and the Five Tibetians. This takes me 10 to 15 minutes per day. My back feels great and I'm back on the course. I don't know if the author was familar with these eastern methods or if this is where east meets west. I highly recommend this book. Do not underestimate it because of it simple layout. There is a big reward for those follow this routine.
Rating: Summary: Golf-Flex: 10 Minutes a Day to Better Play Review: I am a fitness professional and am always looking for printed material which speaks to people in language that they can understand. Many clients and members of the health club ask for recommendations for books that are not too clinical but give real, valid, and easy to use information. Golf Flex does just that! Paul Frediani has a talent in relaying information that makes sense; it will definately help my clients and others to whom I am recommending this book..I am looking forward to more books from this author.
Rating: Summary: Golf-Flex Review: I am a part time golfer that recently turned 43. I found the book to be easy to read and to learn the appropriate techniques for stretching prior to and after a golf outing. I was injured playing golf last year and I found this book to be helpful in avoiding future injuries.
Rating: Summary: A book for all ages Review: I am an assistant golf professional at Burlingame CC in CA, who received this book as a gift from my brother. I found the content of the book to be very specific to the understanding of what muscles are used during the golf swing and to the importance of stretching. I have enjoyed the format because you can develop a daily routine that doesn't take a lot of time out of the day, but covers all the muscle groups. The book should help improve your golf swing if used properly and in conjuntion with golf lessons from a PGA professional. The importance of being flexible and loose during the golf swing cannot be stressed enough. This is a great book to help you improve your game but more importantly your overall health.
