Rating: Summary: Perfect Review: I'll put it simply. This is the best book in strength training EVER! This may be a bold statement but I think it is the best. Maybe not the best book for bodybuilding, but if you want effective and quick gains in your lifts. Get this book. I would recommend this book to anyone. The video is also helpful.
Rating: Summary: Get Big and Get Strong Review: Pavel is the man! Not much else to say. This book has a different approach to what is taught traditionally as far as getting big and strong, but it works and it works well. This book will show the way with no BS to get caught up in. It gets to the point.
Rating: Summary: Way overpriced!!!!!!! Review: Too much money for too little content. This is just another strength guru that nobody will remember in ten years. Plus he's a Commie!
Rating: Summary: Factual, but not worth the money Review: There are other, more comprehensive books on powerlifting out there, for less money. This book focuses on the deadlift and the "floor press", which a bench press on the floor. Yes, you lay on the floor, have someone hand you the bar, lower it until your elbows touch the ground, then press it back up. Nothing but a dangerous partial range bench press. The shoulder press involves pressing a barbell with one hand, by holding it in the middle. This makes it very unweildy, and unsafe especially for your wrist. The good info, on powerlifting fundamentals and periodization, are covered in better detail in many other and less expensive books.
Rating: Summary: Powerful Strength Techniques Review: In Power to the People, Pavel presents many techniques which will greatly amplify your strength. Furthermore, these techniques are stated in layman's terms. This makes the book easily digestable to all who are interested in building hardcore functional strength. He offers two programs: one for building mass and one for lean, wiry strength. Although the programs are valuable, the principles espoused in the book are the most valuable. They will allow you--with practice--to make your training deliver whatever you want: be it mass or strength.
Rating: Summary: Super Strength Made Simple Review: This book was a revelation! I was using the machines at my gym and, while I got a little stronger, I still had all the aches and pains I'd always had, included a problematic lower back. Pavel's program saved me, literally! For the first time in years I'm able to sit and stand relaxedly without lower back pain, and the "real world" strength I've acquired has astounded me - I can open those jars I could never open, the awkward rear seat in the minivan I used to need a helper to put in now gets put in by me and me alone, and I could go on and on. Add to all this the fact that I lost weight while acquiring this strength and I couldn't be happier. This is _the_ book on making your body stronger and it doesn't matter if this is all you do or if you also do other exercises or sports. (I run.) Read this book, follow everything it says, and you'll improve the quality of your life. What more could you ask for?!
Rating: Summary: You don't get any better then this! Review: Pavel Tsatsouline is the Man! I have been lifting seriously for over 10 years and bottome line, this is the best book I've EVER come across. It revolutionized my training and has opened my eyes. You will see results, you will be impressed, and you will never open a bodybuilding magazine again.
Rating: Summary: Start here, if you want to get fit Review: I have been in and out of shape many times over the years, once, I was lucky, and was able to train 2 hours a day 6 days a week for almost 2 years, and got in pretty good shape, from roughly the same starting point, in six months of far from dilligent training, I exceeded any results I had previously acheived, or thought realistic. A simple program, designed for maximum carryover to the real world, safer than anything I have encountered before, and it makes you want to train, not by making you an endorphin junky, but by making you feel good by toning up your nervous system. And it does'nt make you sore! Unless you want to become an elite athelete (Perhaps there will be another book called Power to the elite atheletes) but stronger than you thought a normal human being could possibly be, this is the book you need.
Rating: Summary: Workouts Just Got Smarter Review: As a sports-minded Physical Therapist and admitted iron junkie I find Pavel's strength and fitness ideas to be a blast of pure oxygen in an otherwise stuffy industry. While some of the ideas expressed in the books may seem like heresy to certain lifters, the practicality of his programs can't be beat. Sure, weight lifting can be dangerous. We are surrounded by RISK! Don't be afraid of greatness, Comrades. As Pavel points out,"It is America...land of choices." Go for it!
Rating: Summary: This book changed my life Review: Since ordering Pavel's Power to the People I have increased my deadlift by 150% and have doubled my snatch and power clean. My workouts now take less than 1/2 the time they did before. And now I'm strong! Best of all I've regained the strength in my leg that I had lost after a botched knee surgery and I can walk down steep hills without assistance. (Dr.s had told me I wouldn't get better). Power to the People will teach you how to gain true real-world strength to move your couch, heavy boxes, your piano, etc. in a 15-20 minute workout you can do at home. It also explains why most popular American workouts are useless or dangerous or both. I can't recommend PTP enough. Also try his... other books, especially the Russian Kettlebell Challenge.
