Rating: Summary: It's so ridiculous it's scary!! Review: ARNIE, ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!?!?!?!? If you're new at bodybuilding DON'T READ THIS BOOK!! His instructions are propostorous, his suggestions are ridiculous and his workout 'suggestions' are downright dangerous!! I cannot fathom how a non-steroidal athlete could possibly workout the entire body as much as he suggests they should. I'm sure that marathon workout sessions worked for him, but he is not like most people! Have a look at photos of him when he was young and you can see that he was genetically perfect for the sport! His arms swelled like balloons as soon as he started training. Most people couldn't get that growth in a million years! For him to use the principles that worked for him when he was at his 'non-steroidal prime' and recommend them to everyone is clearly the act of someone who has never had to deal with hardgainers! If you do read this book, cut the workouts in half (or a third) and maybe then your body won't completely breakdown from overtraining. More isn't always better, no matter what Arnie says!
Rating: Summary: One of the more complete books in bodybuilding Review: I used to have the older version of this book but bought the newer one. Although you see a lot of pictures of bodybuilders posing which I think is sometimes irrelevant to the exercises given in this book, it manages to inspire you to pump more iron even though I am not aspiring to be as big as they are.
Rating: Summary: Arnold is the bomb! He knows his stuff... Review: I bought this book this past summer to get some additional insights into new exercises but, more importantly, to understand the mindset of a champion. If you read this entire behemoth of a book you will take away valuable insight that can also be applied to your life. One example of this would be to train your weakest body part first. While a very simple thought, you can tell from looking at people in the gym that most people don't use this at all. I have seen way too many men with huge arms, chest and shoulders but pathetic backs and legs. If you are into bodybuilding this is key. You can apply this to your life by focusing on whatever your weakness is. Do you have a temper, wake up late, or need to get an education to provide for your family? While it does require looking at the book from a different framework it can help. Arnold provides numerous exercises, talks about intensity and fatiguing the muscle and, of course, what kind of nutrition is required to grow. He talks about cariod workouts, prepping for contests, posing etc. This is like Bodybuilding 101 in a book. If you aren't into bodybuilding but want to learn more about fitness just skip the contest part but this book is nothing short of awesome and well worth the price. I have read the book once and gone back to different sections twice since I bought it this summer simply to try new stuff to fatigue my muscles in new ways. If you are a beginner and don't know anything about weightlifting try Body for Life, as it deals with more of the emotional issues associated with weight and is very much a bodybuilders routine. Just easier to follow and will help prep you for this bruiser of a book.
Rating: Summary: This will work for everyone Review: Ok, this book can work for almost anyone who needs to get in shape. If you are already in somewhat good shape, you can use this. If not, go get Body-for-Life for starts. Ok, ignore all those people who give it 1 or 2 stars and say "You need steroids to do this stuff." Yes, you do. IF YOU FOLLOW HIS TRAINING METHOD OF SEVERAL HOURS A DAY AND DO EVERY EXERCISE IN EACH TRAINING DAY 6 DAYS A WEEK. BUT... If you want some exercises and train for an hour a day, that is great. You can use his exercises. He teaches you 10 exercises, if not more, to use on each major muscle in the body. Not just one or 2. But 10 DIFFERENT exercises. This book will work for everyone, if you create your own work-out routine. You don't need steroids unless you follow his work-out routine. And you will also need an ambulance to take you to the hospital after killing yourself following his method. I use his exercises, and work every major muscle in my body, but switch exercises each time I work out and do two-three of each muscle. And I haven't seen any problems. It can work, if you create your own work out routine.
Rating: Summary: Great Guidance for begginers ....for professionals Review: I have this book and I beleive I have the "must have" in bodybuilding! Everyone who has to do with bodybuilding must have this book! It explains everything from exercises ...exercise routines...exercise pictures....nutritional advice...training tips...details that I never read in other book.... It's a Giant book of advice and knowledge! Read it and keep it!
Rating: Summary: Good overview but supplement with other books Review: First off I loved the photos of Arnold and the other body builders with the exception of the over hyped massive steroid popping folks from the late 80's and 90's. Good diagrams and motivation from the king of bodybuilding Arnold. However, more information needed for the natural non-steroid fitness person is sorely needed. Also the workouts are not realistic except for steroid users and the very elite. I do half of what he recommends and thats tough enough to work the muscle. Overall a worthy effort and definitely worth it just for the super cool photos of how to do the exercises and also on the history of the bodybuilding sport.
Rating: Summary: Arnie Kicks ... Review: Arnime is the ultimate Bodybuilding Guru. I mean look at him. His body is that of a Greak Stature. Most of the Pro Bodybuilders today look like monsers from taking Growth Hormone and Varius Androgenic Steroids. I hate it. I like the old Classic look better. Take his advice. I mean look at him he is the best looking body.
Rating: Summary: An aspring bodybuilder Review: This book is truly phenomenal. "The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding" by Arnold Schwarzenegger covers all the aspects of this fantastic sport. From exercise routines to contest preparation, Arnold has created the only book you'll ever need to succeed in the sport of bodybuilding. His section on contest preparation is one of the most thorough I have seen yet. The contest preparation section covers dieting, grooming, posing routines, even what type of posing trunks a person should wear. A definite need for the competing bodybuilder.
Rating: Summary: Truely the Bible of Bodybuilding! Review: This book is a masterpiece. The motivation you will gain from reading this book is worth the price alone, even if you don't follow Arnold's routines. I feel like Arnold is speaking directly to me when I read this book. This book inspired me to become a serious bodybuilder in my spare time. To the reviewers who complain about the routines in this book causing overtraining, you have a lot more to learn about bodybuilding and how training for it evolved. The fact is people must condition their body to handle more intense training. If you suddenly go from a zero to two hours a day program then your body will not respond because it is still too weak! The notion today that hitting the muscles three times a week is overtraining is incorrect. Bodybuilders who DIDN'T take steroids to achieve their success (Bill Pearl, winner of several Mr. Universe titles) train 3 days a week. The body will adapt. Also, Arnold stopped using steroids several years ago. He still looks awesome and he obviously is probably training under the same programs he advocates.
Rating: Summary: not exactly good Review: The day i bought this book i read it for about ten minutes and then went and got a refund from the shop where i bought it from. I realised that it was just for people on steroids so what good was that to me. Being such a legend and icon to so many people around the world arnie didn't even have the sence to consider us naturals, how can he say to train six times a week and a muscle part more than once a week when we all know that it is the wrong way to go. I reccomend a book by Zef Eizenberg called "Natural Training That Works" he is very high up in the company "Maximuscle" who are the leading suppliment company over here in England.
