Summary: Excellent guide to bodybuilding
Review: I really think this book is one of the best so it is hard to decide where to begin!

1. Demonstrates how to execute numerous (LOTS) of exercises
2. Describes different body types and why it is important to train for your body type (ie, if you are tall and skinny, you need to eat lots (good protein, whole grains, etc.), and make sure to get plenty of rest between workouts). So don't waste your money on BRAWN!)
3. Clearly explains how to prepare for competition
4. Describes different methods to help you get results if you have plateaued.
5. The nutrition section is updated and very helpful (he lays out three different sample menus...you move to the next level when you fail to make gains)
Okay, you can see I think this is a top reference book and highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about bodybuilding.

Summary: buy the hardcover
Review: A masterpiece of bodybuilding literature. But advise toy to buy the hardcover edtion. The paperback will fall apart and you'll be left with loose pages. It's worth the extra money.

Summary: Inspirational but not designed for the drug-free bodybuilder
Review: This book has a tremendous amount of information. Arnold provides an educational and inspirational history of bodybuilding. There are a tremendous amount of pictures to keep the reader interested and motivated. There is also an excellent section on nutrition. Furthermore, he provides great detail on the various training principles. Unfortunately, the book goes awry when he begins to provide the trainee with suggested routines. Like most bodybuilders/trainees, I enjoy working out but do not have the time or interest in turning it into a career. This book dedicates a lot of pages to exercises and training routines for individuals who are at or aspiring to be professional bodybuilders. In addition, many of the exercises referenced are virtually useless and extremely dangerous (eg. press behind the neck, smith machine and hack squats, sissy squats, triceps kickbacks, etc). All in all it is an interesting read so long as you don't try to perform all of the exercies and routines because it will lead to certain overtraining and/or injury if you're a drug-free bodybuilder. Several other reviewers have recommended a book called Beyond Brawn by Stuart McRobert. I also highly recommend all of his books.

Summary: One of the Best
Review: What separates Arnold's Guide from other bodybuilding encyclopedias such as Joe Weider's Ultimate Bodybuilding or Ironman's Bodybuilding, is the quality of the pictures and the pages, as well as Arnold's unique style of description. In any other guide the pictures are quite simply not half as sharp or inspiring, nor do the pages have the same gloss finish. What Arnold brings to this book which other author's of similar guides cannot is his unique perspective from being the major figure of the sport as the first great champion as well as its top spokesman. Readers reap wonderful insight into Arnold's way of life and discipline in becoming the seven time Olympian Champion and into the friendships he developed with other bodybuilders over the years.

As far as a hardcore technical manual, the book is not as detailed as others such as joe weider's or bill pearl's. And some of the training programs he mentions might not be suitable for the average beginner on a non-substance-enhanced plan. However the advice on nutrition, discipline, and mental dedication are unique among bodybuilding books I've read.

Perhaps Arnold's book is not the most suitable for someone wants the most detailed descriptions of every variation of every exercise (see Bill Pearl), however the book is extremely enjoyable to read and very motivating. In my opinion, any fan of arnold's will thoroughly appreciate this book.

Summary: Training wisdom from the greatest ever!
Review: I am amused at some of the reviews of this great book by arguably the greatest bodybuilder of all time - Anold Schwarzenneggar. Those of us who were around a couple decades ago show the great evolution of Arnold's physique. Arnold transformed himself from a very beefy and unsymetrical better than average Mr. Universe competitor to a six time Mr. Universe and 7 time Mr. Olympia and probably the greatest of all time. This training system will not lead to overtraining. That said, Arnold does not recommend that you start off with 20 sets per bodypart and train six days per week.Remember too that Arnold recommends supplements and large amountS of protein. At his peak, Arnold was ingesting 150 dessicated liver tablets, 3 dozen eggs and 3-5 lbs of beef PER DAY!Fans of the Mentzer system will not like Arnolds techniques, but Arnolds system will generate better overall results. To the individual that suggested doing front deltoid raises with thumbs up rather than palms down as Arnold suggests, obviously you are new to training. It may be safer, but it doesn't work the deltoids as well. Why not just stick to inclines?I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to achieve their best in physical development.

Summary: Become more energetic, powerful and muscular.
Review: YOU ONLY NEED TO KNOW ONE THING!!! THIS IS EVERYTHING YOUR LOOKING FOR. In 800 pages it leaves nothing out. It covers everything you need to know. I bought it and read it twice in the first week i had it. It's never on the shelf. (it really deserves the status of "Bible").

An awesomely informative book with plenty of good advice and many exercises stacked with pics and advice and the correct movements. It's not just for bodybuilders anyone going to the gym just to become more energetic, powerful and muscular needs to read this book. Bodybuilders today are only now realising through scientific studies what Schwarzenegger has know for years.

Someone here said the training schedule was insane well i went on it and i was a hardgainer, tall and very underweight. I've only ever used a weight gainer because of a lack of eating on my part through the student lifestyle. But through the level 1 training i was getting bigger, stronger and staying cut.

The training is incredibly cleaver. It's designed so you can workout more and give the muscles previously worked a two day rest period minimum, some muscles being given light work or rather more of a streatch the next day at the most. Plus it has power exercises included for total body strenth and mass with specific exercises chosen so that your also flattening the stomach and building hard awsome abs throughout the workout.
BUY THIS BOOK AND CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

Summary: The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding
Review: This book is obviously a labor of love for Arnold. He provides very, very detailed information on how to get every last bit out of your body sculpting program. If you are going to learn something why not learn it from the master. Arnold is a very smart guy and his writing style is engaging and easy to read. You do not have to be preparing for competition in order to get great value and advise from Arnold's instruction. Anyone who want's to get involved with a body building program should read this book before you lift a single weight!
