Summary: Stole it from the library
Review: On the recommendation of an English prof, I borrowed this book from a college library for my nature writing class. I sent them a check for the cost of the book and kept it. While the few anti-Christian overtones of the book are mildly offensive, they are easily overlooked in this book about living simply in harmony with nature. The child/author dwells in the Ozarks with his grandfather and granduncle after being sent home from Okinawa by his Army father. The two oldsters are subsistence farmers who take care of their land, stay poor, and blend with the rhythms of the earth. Truly an inspiring book.

Summary: Salvation in the Ozarks
Review: The first time I read this book, I kept it and sent the library the money. The second time I read it, I wrote my senior thesis comparing Middleton's home-style tale with William Wordsworth's nature poetry. The third time, I wrote Mr. Middleton to tell him about... well, just to tell him. Unknown to me, he had passed away the previous year. I don't know the circumstances, but I like to think that Harry passed away doing what The Earth is Enough shows he loved most, tempting the deep trout with a home-spun fly and the love of all things wild.

Summary: Amazing
Review: This book has it all. It's funny, touching, beautifully written, easy to read, contains life lessons - what more could you want? And I don't even fly fish!!! Buy it, read it, keep it, re-read it. I first read it years ago, and keep buying copies as gifts.

Summary: I love this book!
Review: This book is a true gem. I picked it up not knowing much about it and have come to consider it one of my all time favorites. More a book about living and dying with meaning than a book on fishing. Middleton pulls on the readers emotions; humor, wonder, grief -- with great skill.
If you read one book this year, read this one.

Summary: One of the best books I have ever had the pleasure to read.
Review: This is a beautifully written book about living a simple, enjoyable life. The first time I read this book it moved me beyond words. I have read it several times over the past few years and I enjoy it more each time. This book should be required reading in every high school in America because it is an "American Classic."

Summary: The Earth is Enough
Review: This is a remarkable book, while enticing to the fly fisherman, it should be read by all. It's truly a tale of living in our world, not with just the period of our brief mortality, but a world for eternity with all of God's creatures. It's certainly not a religious book but a book filled with the joy of hope and living.
