Summary: The best primitive living book ever written
Review: This book tells everything you need to know in order to survive in the wild. I've read over 20 books on wilderness survival and primitive living, and McPherson's book is by far the best one out there. I lived off the land in the Alaskan bush and greatly appreciate all the John has done to help me accomplish that. My only suggestion is that when "making" fire with a bow and drill, you MUST relieve pressure a little when the smoke starts billowing so that you'll kick the ember out onto the tinder. Kudos to John McPherson!

Summary: This is the best book on this subject in print. Period!
Review: This is a HOW TO on primitive skills. We wrote these books (each chapter was once an individual book in itself) to teach others that it wasn't hard to do primitive skills IF GIVEN THE PROPER INSTRUCTION! We learned the hard way - from books that didn't work (the many still in print today shows that the real doers are outnumbered by the armchair doer). There were no books available when we were learning during the 70's and 80's covering all these skills that worked. We tried 'em.

We're just awful tired of people writing and presenting things that they don't know anything about -those with a good gift for gab. Well, we don't have that gift ... but we can teach. Our protest is this book. It works. Even if you don't want to learn whatever skill you read about, you'll know 'em when you're finished reading. We have presented here, step by step, illustrated with over 700 photo's, everything that you need to accomplish the task at hand. We remember those little steps left out of other books that make the project work. We put them here. There is no magic presented. No philosophy. No spiritualism. Just plain physics. Rub two sticks together (the right sticks, the right way) and you can make fire. (Yep. It works.) Dig some clay outta the ground, prepare it, fire it and have a cooking vessel. Take weeds, fur, or bark and make rope. You get the idea. It's all here. For you. We're not artists, we present function. Any of these skills can be taken further and there are some very good instructional manuals on specific areas.

We have followed this work with "Primitive Wilderness Skills, Applied & Advanced" (ISBN 0897459849) - some firsts (brain tanning robes & furs), some only's (a 20 foot dugout canoe using nothing but stone tools) and lotsa common sense. It's here at Amazon.com. Check it out

Summary: Naked Into The Wilderness
Review: Though a little can be said with many words, a few can say much... very good book. A couple of the pictures (traps) are a little difficult, as well as with the basketry pictures. Other than that... solid.

Summary: This book is awesome!!
Review: What can I say that hasn't already been said, this is the first by John McPherson that I have purchased. It just arrived yesterday and I haven't been able to put it down. This book teachs all the things I wanted to learn from my grandmother and family and was never shown. The moment I opened it and saw how to make my own bow I was hooked. This book has everything I have been looking for. This book is awesome!! This book is worth much more than I paid for it, if you want to escape totally, or have to survive without much or any aid from the modern world...this is a must have and must know book.
