Summary: Very Insightful & Interesting!
Review: I loved hearing the stories first-hand! It made it seem more alive. The pictures were fabulous! I will admit that I am not a football fan, so I was a little bored with so much football-talk. I enjoyed reading about how Bill's family felt about his decisions (profession, bald head, tattoo, etc.) I also enjoyed reading the comments from the other wrestlers. I loved the way Bill spoke so candidly about what the wrestlers privately say to each other during the matches that the fans don't hear. He also spoke about what goes on during the match that the fans wouldn't notice. It was very interesting and I couldn't help sharing tidbits of info with my family as I was reading! THANKS Bill!

Summary: best book ever
Review: I read Goldbergs book and I must say it's probabaly the best book i've ever read. It covers everything about the the wrestler, and, the man behind the the character. Another thing that makes this book great is that it was written by the man himself, from an unemployed football player to the world heavyweight champion. it's also surprisingly very funny and humorous a must buy.

Summary: For extreme fans of Goldberg only.
Review: I read one of the five-star reviews, saying this book is a masterpiece of fine literature and that it was very compelling and gripping. I'd have to say that the person who wrote that review was either being very sarcastic or is on very strong drugs. I found this book to be boring for the most part. If you took out all the stuff about his football career you'd be removing a majorly huge chunk of the book. I frankly found all that football stuff to be boring as hell to read about, and it just goes on and on in painfully boring detail. I really didn't care about any of it. But i guess he needed to fill pages to lengthen the book. After finally finishing this book, i came away feeling that the main reason Goldberg became the big superstar he writes about is because he was new on the scene and that they let him win the matches to get his name on top real fast.I still see him as just a big musclehead ex-football player who got a break in wrestling. And if i see one more of those dumb poses he does with his mouth opened as wide as possible as if he's screaming at the camera like a big dumb moron i think i'm gonna puke. He totally looks like an idiot when he does that. Makes me wanna laugh. Is that supposed to be his trademark look?Do not pay full price for this book. Borrow it from the library or from a friend. If you're not a fan of Goldberg, don't waste your time. Then again, if you have insomnia, pick up this book. America's superhero? I think that is just egotistical bullcrap from the editors or Goldberg himself. What qualifies him to gain the prestigious title of America's superhero? Did he find a cure for cancer? No. He's just like a cartoon character, nothing more.

Summary: I'm Next
Review: I think this book is good because it tells about Goldberg's life and how he grew up being a Jew. In this book it tells how an injury ended his football career, but started his wrestling career.

I give this book five stars because it is a very nicely written biography. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about people's lives and about wrestling.

Summary: A Human Hero
Review: I was really taken in by this book and by the down to earth attitude Bill Goldberg put forth. He spoke his mind, and I like what he said. In a lot of ways he is a Hero - standing up for things he believes in, not putting up with the type of people who have nothing good to say and helping out those less fortunate. After this read, I can honestly say that meeting him would be a highlight of my life that I'd relish forever. I hope you can read his book and enjoy it as much as I did. Good Job, Bill!

Summary: an honest but unspectacular effort
Review: I would rank this offering somewhere between the shameless self aggrandizing of The Rock and the very ambitious efforts of Mick Foley. This book can be read quite easily in 2 days, unlike Bret Hart's offering which takes less than 2 hours. I think the decision to start the piece with Goldberg's experiences as a pro wrestler and go into his childhood and pre-wrestling experiences later is going to appeal to the vast majority of potential buyers. As a result this book feels more like two short books offered back-to-back. There were some incidents - such as the unfriendly encounter between Goldberg and Miami Dolphins coach Don Shula at a basketball game - that were narrated twice, and I felt this could have been avoided or reduced with more careful editing. Given the relatively short length of the book one could argue it was completely unnecessary.

I was rather surprised at the frequent examples of Goldberg's undisciplined behaviour during his leisure hours prior to his wrestling career, including the admission that he failed a drug test during his senior year with the U of Georgia Bulldogs, resulting in his suspension just prior to the Gator Bowl. It is also noted that his shortened professional football career was attributable to injuries sustained in action and not to his own carelessness or recklessness - although the author perhaps went to excessive length to establish this.

I got the very strong impression the author was the black sheep of the family prior to his wrestling success, although this is never stated or implied in the book. It seems he was trying very hard to prove himself especially to his dad and older brothers in spite of his many problems, and finally succeeded.

The sections devoted to wrestling were insightful and interesting, and the author makes a refreshingly candid assessment of his own performances and those of his peers. Contrary to popular belief, as it turns out, he did have one loss during that impressive 175 - 0 streak.

I wish they had chosen a different photo for the back cover of the jacket. I have no objection whatsoever with Goldberg wearing what I assume to be a yamulka. I believe that a photo of the back of someone's head and shoulders, apart from demonstrating his strength, is rather impersonal and off-putting.

This book is recommended with some reservations.

Summary: You Can't Put It Down
Review: I write wrestling columns for two websites. We see wrestlers come and go with little or no fanfare. When Bill Goldberg burst on the wrestling scene, nobody had every created that much notice in that short length of time. In the book, Goldberg discusses the "positives" that this brought, and he pulls no punches (pun intended) talking about the negatives that he is learning from. If you are a wrestling fan, add this one to your library!

Summary: A great book for fans of any sport
Review: I've only gotten through the first 5 chapters and I'm already in love with the book. So many questions that ponder Goldberg fans' minds are answered by the only person that can answer them. There are many excerpts from other wrestlers and several amazing photos from throughout his life. I would've given it 10 stars but I was only allowed 5. Being the extreme Goldberg fan I am and webmaster of BGoldberg.com, I highly recommend this book to practically any sports fan because it's not just about wrestling. It's about hard work, dedication, and the suffering it takes to be the best at what you do.

Summary: Goldberg enters the pantheon of great American authors
Review: In his compelling work, "I'm Next", Goldberg challenges the intertextuality of the American "hero" and calls into question the very hierarchy of capitalistic patriarchal cultural values. For Goldberg, the American hero is a composite figure of multiple "histories." Once these histories intersect, a composite image of sweat, bodily secretions, and black knee pads reveals a character both tender and savage.

Any reader who seriously tackles the great works of contemporary culture must read this manifesto of bald-headed autobiographical narration.
