Rating: Summary: 10 stars out of 5 Review: "Hoops Dreams" tells a great story; one that you don't have to be a basketball fan(or even a sports fan) to enjoy. The writing is superb, the descriptions are vivid and the characters are all well portrayed. The entire story is based on the lives of two poor, black basketball players from the north side of Chicago, and it really shows, as the story progresses, that all the events are true. The way the plot twists and turns makes it very interesting and sets it apart from fictional books with its individuality. "Hoop Dreams" is much more than a sports novel; it is an outstanding piece of literature that will serve as an inspiration to everyone who reads it for years to come.
Rating: Summary: You must read this book! Review: Do you like a very exciting basketball book that shows you basketball from the inner city streets and how kids had to struggle to stay alive? Then this is the book for you. I don't like to read, but I couldn't put this book down. I liked this book because it is filled with action. It showed how kids in the inner city had pretty much nothing besides basketball. I also liked it because it showed basketball and many other problms they had like drugs and school. This book is about two kids who lived in the inner city and want to play professional basketball. The two kid's names are Willima Gates and Arthur Agee. After grade school they went to St. Josephs. They had their struggles in the first year because they didn't know any kids. They were in a nicer school, and there was more white kids than at grade school. William goes to play on the varsity team his first year and Arthur goes to play on the ju. varsity his first year. This is the best book I have ever read. I rated this book five stars. These are some other books I read, Slam and Hoops that are like this book. Hoop Dreams is a great book, and it is filled witha action nd excitement.

Rating: Summary: An intense basketball book! Review: For two inner city kids from the west side of Chicago this is a chance of a lifetime. They get to get out of Chicago's west side for at least ten hours every weekday, to go to St. Josephs to play basketball. The book was excellent and I would rate it 5 stars. I could not put it down. It not only takes you through thier basketball lives, but through thier real lives. I liked it so much, because it was real, true to life, nothing in that book was fake, it was all real. I like reading books about athletics, but Hoop Dreams put each of them in, athletics and real life writing, which was a great combonation together. For these two young men, it was a struggle to try to fullfill thier own hoop dreams. Even with all of the adversity in thier life, they stuck with it thtrough thick and thin, and that was really enjoyable to read about. I would reccomend this book to any teenager who loves basketball. I would not reccomend this book to anyone younger than thirteen, because it does have some foul language in it. To anyone who has not read Hoop Dreams yet, go out and read it, it is one for the ages!
Rating: Summary: Straight Ballin Review: Hoop Dreams is a book everyone can relate to. Whether it be for the fact that it is for athletes or just for people who like real stories about people struggling for success. I personally liked the book because you got to know the kids and where they came from, not just about their basketball lives. You know it is a great movie when in the credits for He Got Game they have both the kids, one is one the brooklyn bridge and the other is in the gardens. Great book. I recommend it to all who love to read.

Rating: Summary: Hoop Dreams (a.k.a Piece of Crap) Review: IF I could think of one book: it would not be this book. I do not like it, and Charles Barkley's introduction is not well written - as if he was a high school drop-out. Personally, I hated it.

Rating: Summary: Hoop Dreams Review: In this novel, Arther Agee and William Gates are two high school kids from Chicago. The book starts off during there freshmen year and at first they go to the same school. Arther doesnt have enough money to stay at the school. He ends up going to a inner city school. They have two narrators in the boook. Both of the players are narrators but they have seperate chapters for them. The book also goes into great depth about the kid's parents. The book always talks about how Artheris too small to be any good, but he proves everybody wrong. They both have dreams to play in the NBA and it talks about their struggles trying to get there. I recommond this boook to anyone who likes sports and espically to people who like basketball. This is a must read and it is very hard to put the book down. It is also a true story, which makes it that much better
