Review: I saw this recently on TV, and had to scour the internet to identify this incredible film. While the movie was not subtited (simply the version I saw..?), my inability to understand chinese did not effect the impact of the movie. Emotion and intent is very well communicated, especially by Mark Salzman and Pan Qingfu. I am not often a fan of foreign films, but this one easily held my interest, and I was very satisfied after watching it. For anyone interested in Chinese culture, I recommend this movie.

Mark Salzman does a great job of describing China and entertains you at the same time. This book will make you laugh and cry. If you are interested in history, travel and foreign cultures this book is a must read.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A spectacular book with witty stories and Chinese culture Review: Iron and Silk is an amazing piece of literature, combining both the mastery of a comical story-teller and the wisdom of a Chinese master. Integrated throughout the book is Salzman's various experiences with the Chinese people, culture and, my personal favorite, wushu (kung fu). There is not a bad remark I can make about this book, except that you should be prepared to finish it in a single sitting because it is so engrossing!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: An excellent introduction for teachers going to China. Review: This movie explores the differences between idealistic dreams and the realities of life in China. Mark Salzman's adventure focuses on teaching English, learning martial arts and Chinese, as well as cross-cultural difficulties involved in life in China. It shows that nothing is simple when it comes to cross-cultural encounters and that even falling in love can be more difficult thasn it might be expected to be. The movie has proved a useful tool for English teaching in Australia, as well as an introduction for those who mighty like to teach in China.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: PERFECT Review: I read this book years ago and nearly cried when I lost my original edition. Salzman became a favorite author then, and I've never been disappointed. Remarkably, his writing is never formulaic. This is an author to follow loyally.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: One of the BEST!! Review: I loved this book! It gave a view of a people without holding back. It was written with love, and yet without blindness to the faults that every culture has. It is completely honest. I thought it was wonderful how Mark Salzman was able to convey such deep stuff in a easy free flowing style. If you begin, don't plan on putting it down!

Review: I saw this movie in a Chinese Film class, and liked it from the very beginning. The story was simple, and perhaps cliched, but seemed very real. As your everyday American girl who is also a Chinese major, I can see myself in what Mark goes through. "Iron and Silk" reminds us that you never know how it is until you get there, but also caters to those who look to China for something you can't find here at home...
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Very faithful to the book. Review: I was particularly pleased to see how well the film accurately portrayed the author, a martial artist in the true sense of the word. If anything, I would have liked to have seen the film be longer. George I. Martin, Ed.D. (3rd degree black belt, TKD)
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: This book was boring in some parts and some were good Review: I didn't think this book was that great because all he talks about is what he acomplished and everything always turns out good for him. There are no parts in the book where he doesn't acomplish something that he wants to do. Also I thought it was kind of boring the only parts in the book that I like is when he is practiceing his wushu.
