Rating: Summary: Foley does it again Review: Great follow-up to Have a Nice Day, Mick Foley takes the reader through the final months of his wrestling career, as well as gives his thoughts on the PTC, backyard wrestling, and other things. Those unfamiliar with pro wrestling might not get the inside jokes. Nevertheless, this is a wonderfully entertaining look at one of the true good guys of the wrestling world.
Rating: Summary: Foley is Indeed Good Review: Foley is Good picks up right after Have a Nice Day! finishes. Mick talks about the 1999 Royal Rumble match with The Rock, his final match at last yeat's Wrestlemania, and everything in between. Mick also talks about his family, the PTC, and even more Al Snow jokes. The only bad thing about the book is that when you have finished it you want more. This is a great book that should not be missed, whether you are a wrestling fan or not.
Rating: Summary: Great followup Review: Mick Foley hit a goldmine in realizing his literary talents. His first book, "Have a Nice Day" was superb and could draw in readers from wrestling fandom to booksnobbish backgrounds. "Foley is Good" does the same, with a little more emphasis on drawing in the booksnobbish this time around. He takes a lot of intellectual standpoints in the course of the writing (i.e. the PTC, backyard wrestling, real life being faker than wrestling!), dissects and explains them, which was something he didn't do too much of in the last book. Truthfully, I enjoyed "Have a Nice Day" better but I wouldn't go without "Foley is Good" in my collection!
Rating: Summary: Foley does it again Review: In the introduction, Mick claims he personally likes this new book better than his old one; I would say it is probably a matter of personal taste, and I preferred the original. Even at that, it surpasses all other recent releases in this genre. Like the original, it has some quirkiness in its design; I got tired of seeing the book's title on the margins of many of the pages. The front cover is improved over the earlier book and in my view so is the title. There is more space in this release devoted to Mick's preferences and experiences outside the wrestling business, not the least of which would be regarding theme parks, movies and actors. Some will find this entertaining, others perhaps tedious (myself included), but it is all refreshingly candid and original. It is hard not to admire Mick's concern for the welfare of children. Many readers will find the practical jokes on other wrestlers absolutely hilarious, and I sensed in his chapter on Owen Hart - which has much new material from the first book - how much he is missed in the wrestling community. Fans of Mick's one-liners will not be dissapointed, although I thought they were toned down slightly in this issue. The final chapter is the best, with a carefully researched and articulated defense against the high level of media criticism of the wrestling business. The first book had an excellent introductory comment by Jim Ross; it was unfortunate this new issue did not receive similar treatment. Fans of Foley's unique and engaging writing style should not hesitate to acquire this hardcover edition, which, like its predecessor, is fairly priced for its substantial size.
Rating: Summary: A dissapointment Review: I AM A MASSIVE MICK FOLEY FAN! I've been into wrestling over 10 years and once I found out how amazing this guy is I was an instant fan. But I'm sorry this just isn't in the same league as his first book 'Have a Nice Day'. I read that book through 4 times, I laughed each time and always found something new. This book however while very good is not as funny, not written as well and too self indulgent. While this book is quite good and has moments of genious like his last book(although alot less migt I add)there is nothing as great as the 'cookies' chapter, I get the feeling that Mick is just boasting about how much of a role model he is, how much money he's made and how good a father he is, how much sex he has from his lovely wife, how many celebrity fans he has, how great his kids are compared to everyone else's kids, how many times he's met Britney Spears, BLAH BLAH BLAH! The last book didn't have any of this boasting in it at all. The last book gets a 4.9 out of 5 but this gets just a 3 I'm afraid. It has less pages and the last 60 pages aren't even anything to do with wrestling. You'll finish this book within 2 days, maybe even a day. I would pay £100 for 'Have a Nice Day' but I feel that I have wasted £15 buying this. Wait for the paperback.
Rating: Summary: So Far Review: I recently purchased this book, Foley is Good, and I have to say that what I have read so far is really a good piece of literature. Mick Foley maintains the same sense of humor that he showed in his last book, Have a Nice Day, and the Al Snow jokes are just hilarious. This is a must read for any true WWF fan out there. It is a wonderful book! I highly recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Foley is Great Review: Much like Have a Nice Day, Foley is Good discusses the finals months of Mick's career and many other issues such as fatherhood, Christmas, and rollercoasters using his usual humor (with a few Al Snow jokes thrown in). This is a must read for any wrestling fan or anybody looking for a good book. This one will will definitely keep you entertained.
Rating: Summary: Foley is the Best Review: I loved Foley's first book and couldn't wait to read this one. I wasn't let down. This book is an excellent read. He voiced his opinion on kids watching wrestling and parents letting them (which I happen to agree with most every word he said). There were stories in this book that were so funny that I actually laughed outloud. I do disagree with those who say if you are not a wrestling fan you won't like it because I think everyone would like this book.
Rating: Summary: Foley is an Incredibly Gifted Author......and Wrestler Review: This book a great read. I would recommend anyone who wants to buy it to do so. It's well worth it. Good literature is pricy these days, but this one is worth it. If you're a fan of the WWF, do yourself a favor and buy "Foley is Good."
Rating: Summary: Micheal Frances Foley- IS NOT GOOD... BUT GREAT! Review: When I read Foley's first book I was thoroughly impressed and enjoyed it immensely. I was unsure of what he would talk about in a second book for I was sure all his bases where covered, but this new book is great as well. At times I could have done without the sexual references but other than that Foley delivered his life and belittled the many critics of a sport he loves so much with class, wit and humor that would offer competition to even the best of stand up comedians. I love Mick Foley- the wrestler, father, comedian and AUTHOR and I know you will too! FOLEY IS NOT GOD for there is only one- BUT HE IS CERTAINLY GREAT! "ROCK ON"...or should I say "MICK ON" -Andrea Mark 9:23 (and Foley believed)
