Summary: Poor Little Rich Girl
Review: This book is a tedious litany of the many disappointments in Bertine's life. There is very little action in the book, but rather endless pining for what might have been. Various skating rinks are described in excrutiating detail, but there is surprisingly little told about what actually happened out on the ice. Bertine spends so much time wallowing in self-pity that there is no room for anyone else in her book. The author's family, friends, and coaches warrant only passing mention; human interaction does not appear to be one of Bertine's strong suits. I'm not sure if the theme of the book is supposed to be that ice-skaters are spoiled and self-absorbed, but that is certainly the main point I got out of it.
