Summary: More than just a race car driver
Review: I became a somewhat fan of Dale Jr in his rookie season, so this book was a boon to me. I read all of Dale Jr's Nascar insights before ever knowing that he had written a book, and was impressed by his ability to convey emotions and humor in his writing. Now, this book is not about sappy emotion by any means. Dale Jr seems to write just as he seems to live. He's a young man with much potential. He loves to party, flirt, and drink with his buddies. But he seems so down-to-earth in his telling of it, that you can't help but get drawn in. He does a wonderful job in this book of revealing a little more about Dale Jr, the young man and race car driver, all the while dispelling everyone's notion that he is going to be a second Dale Earnhardt. He tells in this book that he is his own man in his own right, paying tribute to his dad for getting him there, but not taking over his personality.

Summary: A fabulous book
Review: This book is one of the best I have ever read. It is definitely a must read for any NASCAR fan, especially one that is a fan of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. This book is extremely captivating, and I completed it in two days. There is not a bad spot in the book, although he does tend to focus on Bud Girls...there are hilarious moments in this novel, one of them being the 2000 Winston and it's tale about a man dressed as a giant Oreo. Although it was penned by Jade Gurss, you can tell that the stories are entirely Dale Jr.'s, and his personality comes shining through. You feel closer to him somehow after the completion of this book. Dale manages to use colorful language to his advantage; it's an easy read, but definitely makes you think. The photo inserts in the middle are a great addition, as is the epilogue covering the events of 2001 and how he coped with his father's death. He is very candid about everything, and it's refreshing. Overall: it's just a great, great book and can definitely be reread numerous times.

Summary: I laughed, I cryed and I was pleasently surprised
Review: This book was one of the most entertaining books I have ever read. I laughed and cryed and could not put it down. Dale Jr. has a nack for writting and seems to really speak from his heart. I hope he will continue to give us more to read on his exciting journey through the NASCAR spotlight. This book is a must read for any NASCAR fan.

Summary: This Driver can write, as well
Review: "Hi everyone, this is Dale Jr." begins the Introduction and from that point forward, you sense Junior is talking to you directly.

DRIVER #8 is a first-rate account of Dale Jr.'s inagural 2000 Winston Cup season, from the Daytona 500 thru the NAPA 500 in Atlanta, Georgia, as told by Junior himself in a fashion even a non-NASCAR fan can appreciate. From February thru November, 2000 you go behind the scenes with a Winston Cup driver, meet with sponsors, mingle with fans, and realize first hand the inordinate demands and weekly pressure put upon a racing rookie in this most competitive circuit, not to mention a "legacy" and budding superstar like Dale Jr. This book is so well scripted, I read all 300+ pages in one evening, and frankly, I haven't done that it quite some time. BRAVO to #8 on another victory. You continue to make your Dad proud!

So if you're a NASCAR or Little "E" fan, or just want to know what all the excitement's about, do yourself a favor, plunk down the $17 and proceed to checkout!

Summary: Driver No. 8
Review: I started watching NASCAR on Fox March 2001 and am now totally devoted to this sport. This book is well-written and explains a lot of the "inside racing" for readers. Best of all, it feels as if "Litte E" is in the room talking directly to you about his racing career. You can "almost hear his voice." I love the book, and can reread it and reread it getting something new each time. Jade is a great advisor to Jr. because he allows Jr. to intimately share his experience with us. Dale Sr. would be proud of Jr.'s book because of it's genuine down-to-earth, no-bull representation. Buy it, you'll love it, and you'll read it over and over again.

Summary: WOW
Review: One word......AWESOME!!! Dale Jr. takes on a wild ride through his rookie season running with the Big Dogs in the Winston Cup. Not only does he give us an insider view of what happens on race day, he takes us behind the wall and gives us a look at a driver off the track. This is the closest I've felt to the real life of the guys I watch on Sunday. Driver #8 is a great read full of emotional highs and lows. I found myself laughing in some segments and nearly crying in others. Even if you aren't a fan of Dale Jr., I encourage you to read this book. You'll have a whole new respect for what these fellows do and a whole new respect for them as people.

Summary: It will drive you into reading!
Review: Driver # 8 is a biography of the racing life of Dale Earnhardt Jr. It summarizes the rookie year of his career in 2000. Each chapter is another race and another struggle that Dale had to face. In the book Dale gets off to a good start placing thirteenth in the Daytona 500 the biggest race of the year. Out of the rookies in that race he placed 2nd overall finishing behind the other rookie Matt Kenseth who finished 9th. He goes through many frustrating races by having bad racecars or crashing. There are times in the book were it seems like it can't get any worse than it possibly is. But then he finally gets that thing he needs. He wins his first race as a Winston Cup competitor. It came at Fort Worth, Texas. The way he describes the victory is amazing. He says there is no greater feeling in the world. But with this victory he stills trails Matt Kensenth in rookie points. Can he surpass Matt for the rookie point lead?
I think people of many ages will enjoy reading this book. Especially those that are Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans. It is emotionally exciting and fun to read. I would not recommend this book to other race fans such as Gordon fans or Johnson fans. I don't think that people not interested in the sport would like this book. Those who would like to learn the sport better should read this book. This book helps you to understand the sport of racing a lot better. I think this is a really great book and I enjoyed reading it.
