Summary: Tedious, egocentric, major disappointment!
Review: Bought this book with enthusiasm, but quickly found myself forcing myself to keep reading it because it was tedious, dry, and incredibly self-serving and egocentric. Would never recommend it to a friend, and would never read another one of his books based on my experience with this book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Absolutly amazing!
Review: Never has a book made me cry before, until I read this one. I could relate so much to many of the stories Monty told. The stories he told about the horses he rode when he was young really made me remember my first pony. I highly recommend this book to anyone!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Simply revealing. A lesson to all of us insensitive.
Review: All the principles taught by MR apply in avery path of life. It seems like if we practice MR's approach not only with horses but with other animals (and people)we are out to gain and enrich our lives.... make ourselves better beings

Summary: Monty Roberts is a miracle worker!
Review: I have attended Monty Roberts' demonstration, and I was absolutely mesmerized. There were five horses, each with some serious behavioral problem (and you can't "fake" a problem horse with smoke and mirrors like some of Monty's critics seem to suggest). One by one Monty let these horses blow off a little steam, get to know him on their own terms, and finally approach him willingly without the use of a rope or anything. Then Monty proceeded to gently halter and saddle each one, including a very green yearling who went berserk thirty minutes earlier when its owner had tried to do the same thing. In one instance a horse demonstrated a pathological fear of getting into a trailer and it took six adults to get her anywhere near the opening, but after about forty minutes she was walking alongside Monty in and out, in and out, without him pulling at her. It seemed like magic except that he explained every single gesture he made and we could see the horse responding to everything. It took a while, and if you read the book you'll see how he did it, but it suddenly made so much sense that I couldn't believe how stupid people (including myself) can be regarding horses and failing to "listen" to what they are telling us.

Monty Roberts has received some negative press, mostly spurred by his family because there is a history of abuse and jealousy there, and this is unfortunate because his story is worth reading and his techniques are brilliant. You don't have to be a horse person to appreciate this book. It can teach all of us to be more open and compassionate to every living animal and person.

Summary: Absolutely facinating!!!!!!!
Review: Being involved with horse for more than 40 years, this was an eye opener. As a reader of technical and autobiografy only, this was the best i have read over the last 30 years. I wish Monty has time to write a few more, because his life style and experience was unique in all respects. This will be the basis for a rennaisance as far as horsemanship is concerned. Thanks to Monty's intelligent observations in the Nevada.

Summary: An atonishing and overwhellming book, can't get over it.
Review: I have been iluminated by Monty Roberts book. It have gave me a new knowledge and ways of treating such a noble animal. I do have a special touch for them and use to get alone pretty well, but the distances I have come with the method that Monty have share with us,is unheard.I own and train 21 Peruvian walking horses, and I'm using this method with every one of them with out any difficulties.Thank you Mr. Roberts.

Summary: "Join up" instruction excellent, text of book far fetched
Review: For the serious horseman (or woman), the Appendix is the only portion of Mr. Robert's book that is of any value. Mr. Robert's explicit step by step narration on "join up" is an excellent tool for understanding the horse's non verbal communications with you and other horses. However, the entire text would appear to be a very poor attemt at self permotion. If the equine trade publications are correct in their accusations, Mr. Robert's will loose all credibility which is a shame in that his message will be met with skepticism and may for all intents and purposes be lost.

Summary: IMPULSE that must be accept. UNDERSTANDING.
Review: Very strong emotions.Great emotions. It is difficult for me writing or thinking about this book because it makes me breathig quickly and laughing at the same time.I become the happinest person in the world each time I think there is a person like Monty Roberts in the second part of the world. However, thought about hundreds of other people who feel like me is the PEAK of happiness. Thank you,MR. Thank you,all enthusiasts. My best friend,baSiek, and I are going to have our own farm with horses and, although, it is still a plan(we are twenty and we are studying still), we hope our dreams will come true and that is why we invite all enthusiasts about horses and MR to our FARM(for sure it will be located near to OLSZTYN-one of sixteen biggest towns in Poland).See you!

Summary: Encouraging to those who think cruelty must be used.
Review: I have seen Monte Roberts. His ability to take the most obstinate and nervous horses and make docile pets of them is awesome. They respect him and more importantly, he respects them.No spoken language can achieve what Monte does with silence kindness..
