Review: Into Thin Air is not only an awesome account of the 1996 Everest disaster, it is also an account of the break down in community and the way that instant communities affect people's actions. Not only does Krakauer focus on the climb in and of itself, he focuses in on the lives of those on the mountain, such as Socialite Sandy Pitman, guides Rob Hall, Andy "Harold" Harris, and Scott Fisher,and many others in a more human, vunerable sence. This gripping narrative, to an extent, can be seen as surreal, but you have to keep in mind, this is one man's account. It is bias as to how he saw things. After reading Into Thin Air it is easier to understand why man shouldn't tame the mountain.

Review: I think Jon Krakauer did a fine job of writing this book. I don't understand why people would criticize him for his actions on the mountain. If I were in his position I probably wouldn't have the strength to crawl out into the storm to search for survivors in the blinding snow. I felt the events which took place on Mt. Everest that day were a terrible tragedy. I think Jon did and excellent job getting the reader into the story and getting the reader to visualize what it was like to climb Mt. Everest. I can't begin to imagine the physical and emotional strain the climbers would have to endure after weeks of struggling up the mountain. In conclusion, I thought this novel was well written and is definently on of the best adventure books I have ever read.

Summary: This book was an satisfactory read
Review: I didn't really enjoy INTO THIN AIR. It was very slow-moving and it didn't strike me as being exciting in almost any way. Krakauer dragged out what should have been small supporting details into whole chapters; things like describing EVERYBODY'S life who was on the mountain at that time, and even some who weren't on the mountain. However, there were a few exciting scenes - like when the Chinese lady was freezing to death and when Beck was very close to dying. Only read this book if you a mature adult who has the time and patience to listen to a long exposition.

Review: I thought Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer was a very good book. In a kind of backwards way, it made me want to climb Mt. Everest. The descriptions of the aclimatization exercises are fascinating. The Icafalls sounded extremely frightening and exhilarating. The fact that the author was really on the mountain gave the whole book a different sound. It gave an inside look on what each experience made him feel. I loved the descriptions, and feeling like you could be right up on the mountain with them.

Review: I liked the book, but I think that the author should have helped the people in his group instead of resting. It appears as if he could have contributed a lot more to save people's lives. I understand that he was under the influence of high altitude, and I know what that does to your brian, but I still believe that he was in a good enough state of mind to rescue his comrades. Besides this, i enjoyed the book, and I thought that it was well written. Definaely worth reading.
