Summary: Some important guidelines for people of all ages
Review: This book is not about basketball, it is not about skills or tactics but about the unconditional love of a man for a game and all that surrounds it... It is about life, about principles, about respecting and being respected... It is ultimately about success... the success of a man that worked hard, stood by his principles and earned the respect of all (and 10 championships...). I like the book a lot... it is a good reading. "LIFE IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION"

Summary: Coach Wooden is the perfect role model.
Review: Coach Wooden has become my role model. The observations and reflections in this book form a path to a happy, productive and fulfilled life. This book makes a great graduation gift for the senior that enjoys sports. The words of wisdom are timeless.

Summary: Must Reading for All Leaders
Review: I keep this book in my office and find myself reading a page or two daily. When I finish, I start the book over again. Wooden is an American treasure and we have much to learn from his approach to life which he defines as the "united effort of many."

Summary: Required reading!
Review: Great book. Wooden proves to be much more than a terrific basketball coach. He's the consumate teacher. No wonder why UCLA basketball was so successful!

Summary: Took my game - and life - to another level.
Review: This book has had perhaps the greatest influence on me as of late. I have drank from this book deeply, and read it several times. In fact, when I seek advice, I open up the little blue book and look for something that says about problems. Not only has this book took my basketball skills to a whole nother level, but it has made me a better person all around. I have changed many of my bad habits, and I'm pretty glad I have changed, as many of my friends like my new attitude, etc. For basketball players, this book will get you into it mentally. Before I read this book, I only had the physical talent to play the game, now I feel as if I have a stable mental view and I am in the game mentally. This book teaches you so much, I cannot say enough. Coach Wooden even guides you step by step, pillar by pillar, through the period of success. This book is a must for basketball fans, players, and for the average person. Even if you despise sports, this book contains information on life itself, it's a must for all.

Summary: The Plain and Simple Truth
Review: It's just a small little book, how can it be anything more than a collection of cliches? Hmmm, good question. This is all I can tell you: it works. Philosophy often has so little practical application in the real world. Not so with Wooden's message. Read it, absorb it, live it. You'll see.

Ten year's ago I wrote a letter to coach Wooden. He was so very kind to respond. His letter remains on my wall to this day, and the words of wisdom in that letter are within this book. I asked Coach Wooden how you can get players to "over-achieve." He corrected me. "Nobody can overachieve," he wrote, "you can only do the best that you're capable of doing. It's the leader's job to create an environment where the followers can rise to their own level of competence."

That is the key.

Create an evironment where you can become the best that you can be. Follow his words of advice and before you realize it you are within that "healthy environment." Next thing you know, good things just start happening more often than they did before.

Life is hard no matter what you do. Coach Wooden doesn't claim anything different, but his philosophy, which is really a country blend of Christianity, Zen, and a host of other philosophies simplified, creates that "healthy environment."

Short, simple, genius.

Summary: The most Inspiring & Motivating book ever written!
Review: Coach Wooden is such a great example for children & adults! I truly believe his sole purpose in life was to be a teacher and show people how to live a humble, decent, peaceful life!

Summary: The only better book is the Bible itself.
Review: After savoring every word of this book myself, I gave a copy as a gift to my mother, a fifth-grade teacher. Her initial rection was "What am I going to do with a book from a basketball coach?" After reading it (several times - highlighting her favorite passages), she recommended it to every teacher at her school. Wooden's philosophy would make him a success in any career, ten championships or none.

Summary: One of the best books I have ever read!
Review: As a former college basketball player, I have followed and admired Coach Wooden for 30 years. However, I was not prepared for how valuable this book would be. It is simply the very best book on the philosophy of life I have ever read. Follow Coach Wooden's advice in this book and you will live a happy and successful life. A life with the most valuable quality you can have -- "peace of mind".

Summary: This is scripture for the basketball fans.
Review: For anyone who's familiar with college basketball, or has heard the sometimes maniacal ravings of Bill Walton on NBC, the name John Wooden symbolizes all that was right with basketball lo those many years ago. Wooden's intelligence, ingenuity and precise sense of how to teach, lead and deal with people is something everyone can learn from. Wisdom such as his is rare. It isn't bestowed on many. Fortunately for basketball fans, Wooden chose to direct his wisdom to the game instead of what may be perceived as a nobler profession. Wooden's "Pyramid of Success" adorns my wall now that I have read this book. This is scripture for the basketball fans.
