Rating: Summary: Solid bio of a major outdoor artist Review: Kevin Shelly does a solid job portraying both the accomplishments and contradictions of outdoor artist Lynn Bogue Hunt. Shelly details Hunt's life with the precision of a journalist but also with the understanding and appreciation of a hunter. He recounts the personal situations and events of Hunt's life, not to indulge in trivial gossip but to explain the forces that shaped Hunt. Shelly documents Hunt's art, from his first illustration in Sports Afield in 1897 through hundreds more in magazines and books over 54 years. And the book's numerous color and black-and-white reproductions allow readers to experience Hunt's art for themselves. Despite Hunt's long, prolific career, few articles and no books have been written about one of the premiere outdoor artists. Shelly's clear and readable book corrects that deficiency.
