Rating: Summary: Spies are stealing power from the solar platform Review: (...)The interstellar corporation General Transit, is set to inaugurate the use of its teleporter which will allow instantaneous planet to planet transport for the first time, but someone has sabotaged Earth's solar platform which provides the energy that powers the teleporter. Someone has also kidnapped Volans Mirfak, an engineer who is important to the teleporter project. At the heart of these problems is the planet Alioth, a colony rife with economic instability and political intrigue. General Transit executive Dion Rendahl arrives on Alioth to investigate and is immediately plunged into the factional conflicts which embroil this volatile society. What I liked most about this suspenseful science fiction thriller is its optimism. It's difficult to feel hopeful in the face of our contemporary world crisis, but Dale Kagan wants us to believe in the future just as Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, did. Her perspective is pro-business without being elitist, intolerant or overly preachy. I also appreciated the incorporation of the New Age respect for spirituality and mysticism. Unlike a great many current science fiction novels, Spies By Night, contains no graphic violence or sex. It's therefore suitable for younger readers. --Reviewed by Shomeret
