Rating: Summary: Great insight into life on the Outer Banks of North Carolina Review: This book is a terrific read! Set in one of the small towns that dot the Outer Banks of North Carolina, this book truly captures the essence of life on this unique area of the US. A trip to the OBX (as it is so often abbreviated) would be greatly enhanced by this well-written story of a visiting family and their experiences with true-to-life local characters. The emnity between long-time residents (some of whom can trace their ancestry on the Banks back 300 years or more) and the well-to-do seasonal tourists (who are changing the character of the area with their lavish spending and fancy schmancy houses) is brought into the daylight brilliantly by the obviously talented FitzSimons. The characters are well-sussed and the story is a swift, engaging read including the climax which, without giving anything away, is a peril historically faced by many of the area's locals. Highly re-readable, especially for those familiar with the area. Here's what you do...buy this book, rent a house in Hatteras, enjoy some fresh-caught bluegill and soak up some sun with this gem keeping you company on the beach. You'll never want to leave!
