Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Thought-provoking speculative fiction Review: Vornarburg's book, translated by Jane Brierly, is a satisfying, thought-provoking journey into multiple alternative realities. I loved it! It starts off a bit slow, but it's worth sticking it out through the first few chapters as you, along with the main character, slowly begin to get your bearings in a world subtly off-kilter. The questions raised are answered, but in thouroughly unexpected ways. It's not really fantasy, not really sci-fi-- rather, it fits solidly into the realms of speculative fiction, the kind that truly makes the world strange.
