Summary: Not a Historical Document
Review: While this book as a good read, it is not a historical document.

There are no footnotes or a detailed bibliography. The author sets out to prove, with a vengeance, that we lost the warrior ethos before the war and lost the first battles because of it. To do this defames the brave men of Task Force Smith and others. Fehrenbach mentions how the troops ran, but never mentions the scores of troops that repeatedly picked up the inadequate 2.36" bazookas from dead comrades to have their hand at it. Not the action of cowards but brave, trained, veteran WWII non-commissioned officers in an impossible situation.

Those men deserve better than this book gives them.

Don't read this book to learn the truth, read it to learn the authors large twist on the truth.
