Summary: Hot Romance w/a Kick-Butt Heroine!
Review: Cady Swann had lived a double life for the past nine years. She was a quiet, part-time bookstore employee during the day and monster hunter at night. She had no idea what the evil, murderous monsters were or where they came from, whether they were an invading force of evil minions or simply abominations who came to her town by chance, but she wasn't about to let them take over her hometown of Lula, Georgia without a fight. It was a thankless job to fight the beasts with their blistered, slimy skin, inky black blood and preternatural strength and power, but she couldn't in good conscious shirk her duties, the innocent small-town people relied on her, whether they knew it or not!

After a particularly difficult night, Cady returned to her small home, left to her by her grandparents when they passed on, only to find a monster waiting there for her. Her enhanced senses didn't warn her because she was so tired and was wounded from her battles. Still, she wasn't about to go without a fight! Unfortunately, this particular monster was like none of the others that she usually fought. With his waist length midnight hair and amber eyes, he was beautiful and she couldn't rip his heart out like she could with the normal monsters. He also had blades that popped out of his arms that he used to pin her to the floor. Then he started grilling her about her allegiances - was she a whore for the Horde, the beasts she killed or was she a supporter of the Shikar Alliance? Having no idea what he was talking about, she said that she was neither - she was just trying to fight the beasts and keep her friends and neighbors safe.

Finally satisfied that Cady knew nothing, Obsidian, one of the Shikar Alliance's elite warriors, returned to his home deep beneath the earth's surface to report his mission to Tryton, The Elder. Tryton was not satisfied with Obsidian's report - he sent Obsidian to persuade Cady to work with the Shikar against the monsters, not to antagonize her! Resigned, Obsidian returns to Cady's home and tries to explain that he is really a Guardian against the Horde. The Shikars are an ancient and powerful race who stand watch over the Gates between the worlds, keeping the mortals and immortals safe from the tide of evil and keeping the monsters from entering the mortal dimension. Cady isn't fully persuaded, but when she sees Obsidian's team in action with a flame thrower, a blade thrower, a warrior and a traveler, she knows that these guys are serious about keeping the monsters away from mortals. She isn't sure she really trusts Obsidian, but she cannot deny that she is incredibly attracted to the gorgeous man. It isn't too long before both Obsidian and Cady give into their desires, but Cady refuses to be obedient to Obsidian in the way he is used to. Pushing him at every turn, she reluctantly agrees to move to the Shikar realm under the Earth's crust, but she still cannot understand why he won't share his seed with her. What is he hiding...?

Ravenous is the first book in The Horde Wars series by Sherri King. It was a very entertaining first book with memorable and likeable characters. Obsidian was a gorgeous hero, with plenty of flaws, but he more than made up for it with his sex appeal. Cady was a great heroine who wasn't about to take a back seat and really showed the men that a woman can be a great warrior too. The sparks really flew between these two strong willed characters and the supporting characters were well drawn, also. It is always nice to read a romance that has a well-drawn plot, as well. The author took care to create a separate race and culture that was believable and just different enough to be interesting and set it apart from the human culture. Also, the sex scenes were really hot and the author was pretty creative. I enjoyed this book enough to purchase the next two (Wanton Fire & Razor's Edge), which follow Obsidian's team members and their search for mates like Cady. Available in ebook and print format.

Summary: Hot action, hot heroes, amazing heroine..
Review: Get ready for a fast, hot ride into a world were the things that go bump in the night are real and there are amazing, more than mortal heroes who are willing to battle back the creatures of the night.

I loved Cady and Sid's story, and the following tales are every bit as wonderful.

But this isn't a sweet romance...it's a wild, wonderful, thrilling ride to true love.

Summary: Hot and Fast Action!
Review: This fast-paced novel of about 42,000 words is the first in a continuing series that currently contains five books. King sets the action-adventure tone early in the story, introducing us to the heroine Cady in mid-battle. Cady's character is quickly revealed and we're given a swift introduction to the hero Obsidian as well. I was impressed both by Cady's Hispanic family heritage and the delineation of Obsidian's otherworldly qualities. Cady and Obsidian have a strong mixture of attraction and conflict in their romance; this nicely mirrors the conflicts in the greater world around them as well as their own interior conflicts.

King begins to develop her complex world of Deamon Horde and Shikar Alliance at a more sedate pace, allowing us plenty of time to wonder about just what kind of adventures Cady and the others have in store for them as the story progresses. King's sex scenes are immediate, sometimes rough and well integrated with the rest of the story.

King's artful introduction of secondary characters that practically scream for their own stories gives us a hint at what is in store for us in the following volumes. I look forward to more Gnostic-style good vs. evil fantasy conflict and more of her breath-stealing sex scenes.
