Summary: One of my all-time favorites.
Review: This is one of those books I find myself reading over and over again. The historical detail sucks the reader into a fascinating "secret world." I read this book when it originally came out in the 80's and have continued to enjoy it ever since. It's like a vacation for your brain.

Summary: Average at best...
Review: This was an ok book. There was some pirates and zombies and voodoo, but that doesnt excuse the otherwise slow pace and foreseeable story line. I just couldnt get into it. Maybe it was just me. Tim powers is a good author and has wrote better books than this. This book is out of print, but if you find one in your bookshelf it may be worth reading if you dont have anything else, or are a huge pirate fan, otherwise dont bother.

Summary: Too Good to Be True
Review: This was the first Powers book that I ever picked up, back in the '80's, and he immediately became one of my favorite authors. This is the perfect pirate story, the characters are well-written and the original 'explanations' Powers concocts to cover some of history's puzzling moments are works of genius. If you enjoy fiction, you must read this book...and if you do, you'll surely be a Powers fan for life.
