Review: There is a very good reason that The Sex Gates won Knowbetter Fiction's Best Science Fiction Award, and that it is one of the bestselling ebooks ever. The reason is: It deserves it. Darrel Bain and Jeanine Berry have brought something new to the genre here. The mysterious and instanteous appearance of strange, glowing green gates all across the planet changes the lives of four college friends and all the social, political, economic, scientific and religious paradigms of the world. People going through the gates find that they are made healthy and young, they are also instantly changed ino the opposite gender. Some people who go through just disappear, as do most who attempt a second trip. Where do the gates come from? The world undergoes massive upheavals as a result of the "sex gates", as do our heros/heroines. This wonderfully layered, insightful book explores issues of gender and society on a grand scale, really gets you thinking, and tells a great story in the process. This is a brilliant, important and fun book. The Sex Gates is a new Science Fiction classic.

Summary: Mind expanding experience
Review: This book and its sequel "Masters of the Sex Gates" are the first books I've ever felt strongly enough about to review on-line, and I read a lot of books, so that should tell you something. These books gave me a whole new perspective on the world. How different the world would be if we could literally walk in someone else's footsteps. It's not just what it would be like to be a member of the opposite sex, but what would we be like as a member of the opposite sex? It's still you, with all of your beliefs, upbringing, etc., but with the hormones, desires, and feelings of the opposite sex. It gives a very interesting perspective on the nature vs. nurture debate. How much of what makes us male or female is inborn, and how much is taught?

Summary: Do you fancy a sex change?
Review: This novel is set at some indeterminate point in the future, when suddenly, all around the world millions of green glowing gates appear. When you walk through one of these gates you will come out the other side once again young and in perfect health and also now a member of the opposite sex - hence the gates popular name 'the sex gates'.This is the story of a group of people one of whom walks through a gate when it first appears, ignorant at the time of its affect on people. The story explores the social chaos caused by the gates ability to restore youth and health and change sex. It also explores the impact of a changed physical body on people. However, the method of exploration of this is though frequent, multi-member sex scenes. Don't read this book if you a sqeemish of group sex scenes. The real SciFi angle of this story doesn't emerge till near the end of the novel, but it does set up for an interesting sequel and despite the story's somewhat heavy reliance on sex I'll be interested to see who the 'masters of the sex gates' are in book 2.
