Summary: If You Like the Avengers Here's Your Fill -and Then Some!
Review: "The Morgan Conquest" may not make you a convert, but any fan of Bronze Age Avengers should appreciate this all-out Avengers-fest. Not as smart as "Avengers Forever" and it does get a bit cramped, but most of the memebers get to strut their stuff and the ending should pull on the nostalgic heart strings of the hardcore fan.If you are of the Renaissance Fair-crowd, the plot (well, the setting really) is an added bonus. It is not spectacular, but it is fun if you happen to like straight ahead action from one of Marvel's premiere teams.

Summary: Best Comic On the Market Today
Review: ...not that that says a lot. Mainstream comics are in pretty poor shape. The corporate identity crises and fiscal-mindedness of all three majors creates an environment where one gets the idea creative ingenuity is not only discouraged but unheard-of. So the third volume of 'The Avengers' is a refreshing change... a competently and lovingly crafted mainstream title that somehow manages to please the title's entire constituency. Busiek and Perez are two of the best creators working in mainstream comics today, and their work on 'Avengers', a title they both obviously love and adore, comes across as you might expect: exuberent, faithful, and refreshing. I am perpetually *this* close to quitting mainstream comics altogether and heading for the greener (though no less dilapidated) pastures of the indie scene... but then a book like 'Avengers' comes along and makes me happy to be reading a mere *superhero* comic. Put a smile on my face. Buy this book if you have ever enjoyed a superhero comic. Buy this book if you are a fan of well-illustrated fantasy-adventure stories. Buy this book if you just like well-done comic books. This book goes on the shelf next to my Clowes and my Tomine... proudly so.

  Summary: Triumph For George Perez
Review: Every Avenger ever participates in this tale. This is the tale that reintroduces the Avengers into the main spotlight of Super Hero books. The Avengers are the premier super hero team in all of comics and this group collects everyone who has ever been a member from the big three, Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man, to the minow members, Demolition Man, Sandman and Rage. See them all. They may not be fighting their toughest foe ever but this tale explains what it is to be an Avenger. Also the return of Wonderman is a real plus. I was excited the first time I read these books and could not put them down. If you love heroes this is the book for you.

  Summary: Triumph For George Perez
Review: George Perez gives us definitive Avengers once again. The story incorporates every Avenger. This makes the tale a bit hard to follow and cluttered but it gives Perez a chance to strut his stuff. The story centers around what it means to be an Avenger and which to which heroes being an Avenger is a vital part of their being. With so many heroes in this book, it would have been nice to have added a roster or "roll call" to keep track of all of the heroes (some are very similar: Firestar, Firebird, Warbird, etc). Busiek got better later on with this series as he became more familiar with the characters and hopefully, Marvel will reprint some of the later Avengers stories (Ultron).

Summary: Not Astro City, Not Marvels
Review: I'm a big fan of this book's writer (Kurt Busiek), so I was thrilled to discover this, another collection of his work. He's the kind of talent you expect to enjoy no matter what he's writing. This along with the first 2 reviews above really got me excited about this book though I've never been a big Avengers fan.
I was disappointed. All the pieces are there on paper; a great writer, and some great art from George Perez. Unfortunately the story is extremely rudimentary and simple, serving only to show as many past Avengers characters as possible at one time. As such this book may be great for big time Avengers fans, but it offers little appeal or entertainment otherwise. This material may pass for "good" or even "great" in comparison to other Marvel superhero comics of recent years, but it lacks the spark that I enjoy so much in other recent superhero team comics such as Astro City and JLA. Astro City (Kurt Busiek's creation by the way) in particular I recommend strongly to anyone and everyone. Both Astro City and JLA have multiple trade paperbacks available.

Summary: How could any Avengers fan not love this?
Review: Laugh at Hawkeye's wisecracks, cry for a suffering Scarlet Witch, marvel at the resurrection of a wonderous hero(pun intended)... This book collects the first story arch of the new volume of Avengers comics. All the favorites are here; Iron Man, Thor, Cap, Hawkeye, Vision, Scarlet Witch, and about 30 others. In this story, the Avengers re-draft their team and shortly get thrust into a medieval alternate reality. Where they must do battle with the infamous Morgan to save themselves. Normally, I loathe alternate reality stories, but Busiek really pulls this one off. Perez's goegeous art doesn't hurt either.
