Rating: Summary: _Weird_ is the word to describe Hexwood. Review: If you've read the plot summaries, you're in for something very different to what you expect. It is totally strange, weird and unexpected, but you can't help liking it. In fact, it's really wonderful, in a quirky sort of way. The main drawback is that it would be embarassing to be seen carrying a book with that hideous cover art (both editions, hardcover and paperback). I own the hardback and removed the cover while I was reading it and only looked at it again after I'd finished. Better that way. Hexwood is for ages 12 and up, including adults who like sci-fi/fantasy. Younger children will have trouble remembering all the pieces of the plot and recognizing the characters. By the way, fans of Neil Gaiman will probably want to try this. I've never read any of his work (I'm planning to), but there must be some connection: it's dedicated to him. Anyone know why?
Rating: Summary: Beautiful. Review: Simply Beautiful. This the first book I have read of Ms.Jones, but I loved it anyways! The plot is complex and delightfully layered. The Science behind the Bannus, the Reingers, Anne, Mordion, are all believable. The characters are not cardboard cut outs, they develope, think, feel, taste, breathe, they could be someone we know. And the pain behind the pasts of Moridion and Anne are also raw and real. Although the Reingers are evil, they have motivations as well. Although, they were still minimally explained. You could read this many times over and not get tired of it. The end paves way for a sequel but although I ache for one, I think its best if its left untampered with. I don't want it to be messed up into oblivion as most sequels end doing to their predecessors.
Rating: Summary: different Review: This book is so incredibly different from Diana Wynne Jones' other books that at first I didn't know it was written by the same author. I was quickly caught up in a whirlwind plot, and I just sat and read for as long as I could. It's cleverness astounded me, and I found myself reading it over and over taking in the smallest details.
Rating: Summary: Hexwood Review: This book is wonderful!! It has a great story line and the ending ties the book togather perfectly. Althought I got lost in some parts of the book its still a over all good buy!!
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever read Review: This book was the greatest. I picked it up at the library expecting another one of those trashy science fiction stories, but this book was really worth reading. I never wanted it to end. I wish there was a sequal, I love the idea of the reigners.
Rating: Summary: a fantastic tour de force Review: This is a strictly convoluted blend of science fiction and fantasy
as a highly advanced off world society uses the Earth as
a secret source of raw materials, while the leaders are caught up in a magical search for the Holy Grai
Rating: Summary: My favorite book of all time! Review: This is an astonishing book, with the most complex, well-thought-out plot and appealing characters that I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The style is deceptively simple and clear, hiding a fog and fluxion that all makes an impossible kind of sense - by the end. I have read this book at least ten times, each time being seduced into buying a reality that I know can't be. My favorite Jones books are Howl's Moving Castle, Deep Secret, A Tale of Time City, and A Sudden Wild Magic, but for me this one blows them all away because of Jones's masterful handling of time and reality. Not to mention the subtle romance, the bewitching secondary characters, and the dragons...my only question is, however do young people "get" this book?

Rating: Summary: Utterly superb! Review: This is one of those books that sucks you in. I started reading it because my younger sister had left it sitting around, and quickly found I couldn't put it down. I read the second half through the course of one day. Somehow Ms. Jones creates characters you can't help liking and situations you can't help believing, no matter how incredible they are... I especially love the way she mixed futuristic SF stuff with the myths of Camelot. Amazing!!
Rating: Summary: Hexwood is an incredible book! Review: Unlike many science-fiction/fantasy books, which are often pretty trashy Diana Wynne Jones's books are incredibly beautiful and complex. They are the kind of books that even adults love, as well as children ages 10 and up. The books have many levels: you can read them purely fo r entertainment value, or you can ponder the deeper meanings behind the words. Also, Ms. Jones creates worlds of such stunning originality and beauty, with totally believable characters, that you never want to put the books down! I love them all!
