Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: I read this book when I was 11 (or 12?) and was hooked. It really spoke to me. It is still one of my favourites some 17 years later! I recently re-read my copy and it brought back the exact images it did then. What a great book!
Rating: Summary: Unforgettable Book Review: I read this book when I was about 10 years old. I now teach 6th grade reading and my school has implemented the Accelerated Reader program. I found this book on the list and decided to take the test. I loved this book so much as a child and read it so many times that the plot and details have stuck with me for over 15 years! I got a 90% on the test! I couldn't believe it. It just goes to show that what you read as a child really does have an impact. I have suggested that many of my students read this book as well. It's wonderful!
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Book Ever!!! Review: I read this book when I was in the third grade, and loved it soo much, decided to write a book report on it, which I just found. Part of my book report read as follows:The main character of The Girl With Silver Eyes is Katie Welker. She was born with silver eyes, just as the title of the book says. She meets a man named Mr. Cooper who she likes until he starts asking too many questions. Katie finds out that she isn't the only child in the world who has silver eyes, and goes out in search of them. But first, Katie needs to find out how to contact them. Because of her wanting to find other people in the world to be her friend, she teaches a valuble trait: Never give up. Just need to remind you that I wrote this in third grade, but I reccomend this book to everyone, form the ages 7 and up!
Rating: Summary: Read this almost twenty years ago and still love it! Review: I read this book when I was seven. Now I'm 26 and still love it! I became a bookworm after reading books like this one and now I'm a librarian. I think back on this book fondly from time to time. 'The Girl with the Silver Eyes' has just stayed with me. I started asking about Thalidomide after I read this story. I treasure so many of the books I read in elementary school, among them: Bridge to Tarabithia and Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Patterson, Anastasia Krupnik by Lois Lowry, Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls, Dicey's Song by Cynthia Voigt, Why are there so many wonderful children books while adult books are dominated by mystery and romance schlock? <<Sigh>>
Rating: Summary: I read this 13 years ago!! 10 stars Review: I read this book YEARS ago. And I must say it is one of the BEST books that i've ever read. I remember that it helped me get through a very ackward time in my life. And still does, in small ways. No spoilers here, even though i only read it once more than 12 years ago and still remember every plot twist. Just get the book. Read it. Love it. And if you don't read A wrinkle in time, then read this book again.
Rating: Summary: Gosh I feel old! Review: I remember reading this book years ago... I think I was in 4th or 5th grade. For me it was the kind of book where you checked it out of the library several times to read it more than once. In a word: awesome. I think it's because Katie is portrayed as a smart girl that makes it appealing to a younger female audience... I'd definitely recommend it.
Rating: Summary: It was o.k, but it could of had a better ending Review: I think it was intresting plot and good story. I didn't like the ending, because nothing really hapened at the end it was a boring ending.
Rating: Summary: What a sweet book! Review: i thought it was so sad how katie's mom was searching for herand katie saw herself on the news and everything. i thought it was soneat and funny how katie and the others worked together at the end. this was a great story!
Rating: Summary: Very good Review: I thought that this was a really well-written book! I lost the book a few years ago and I haven't been able to find it so I don't remember much about it except that I absolutely LOVED IT! It is a total must read! I had read a few things by Roberts before this and I didn't like them so I was a little wary about this book but by the time I had finished the first page, I was captivated!
Rating: Summary: excellent sci-fi/fantasy children's book Review: I'm envious of kids today who can take advantage of the recent explosion of interest in science fiction and fantasy. Back when I was browsing in the children's section of the library (all right, so it wasn't that long ago), I read everything -- which wasn't much -- I could find that vaguely fell into those categories. This book blew all my prior favorites away. Willo Davis Roberts has that rare gift of telling a great story simply, without pandering or dumbing a book down, yet with all the best parts of an adult thriller -- the main character, struggling to find where she and her telekinetic talents fit in a disbelieving world, must try to separate those she can trust from the people who just want to use her. In her search, she discovers some unlikely allies, including kids "gifted" as herself. As a kid, I loved this book because I immediately identified with the main character, wishing I had a friend like her. That's how real I found the people of this story. My copy of "The Girl with the Silver Eyes" is pretty battered, but I can't wait to pass it on to my children
