Rating: Summary: easy, yet fun Review: "The Girl With The Silver Eyes" By: Willo Davis Roberts Reviewed By: K. Ueno Period 5 The Book The Girl With The Silver Eyes is about a girl named Katie who has the ability to move things without touching them. She used to live with her Grandmother, but recently she died, so then she goes to live with her mother. She makes a few friends while living in the apartment with her mom. A while after Katie moves in a man named Mr. Cooper moves in. He seems like a nice man and Katie stars to become his friend. Then one day she finds out that Mr. Cooper is asking people questions about Katie. Katie gets worried and thinks that Mr. Cooper is a policeman and he thinks that Katie killed her Grandma, so runs away. She figures out that there are other children like herself and she goes out to find them. She finally finds them and the children tell her that Mr. Cooper doesn't want to arrest her. Her mother just thought that she had been murdered. Mr. Cooper tells them that he was asking question about Katie because he new she could do things that other people can't. He told all 4 kids that he has a special school for people like them and they can go there if they want. I didn't like this book because I thought it was kind of strange when the book said, "Did she dare to stay in the apartment? Was it safe now that Mr. C had openly revealed himself as if a police officer investigating her grandmother's death?"(page 133) She didn't even sure why he was talking to people about her. I also didn't like the book that much because in my opinion the ending was bad. The author could have ended it with the children's decisions whether to go to the school or not. Although, she decided o end the story with telling the reader that the kids will all have fun together. Or she could have ended the book with a better, more creative, and more interesting ending. I enjoyed reading this book because the story was pretty interesting. It kept me entertained with all of the things she did to people especially Mr. Pollard. I also liked it when she found all of the children who were like her. That way she wouldn't feel alone in the in the world and she would have some friends. That way she could talk to people about her abilities. When she first realized that there were people like her the book said, "Katie was so excited tat she nearly choked on a peanut butter sandwich."(page 60) I was glad to know that Katie was able to find people like herself. My favorite part of the book was when she got to meet each child like herself. I was glad that she did find them because everyone deserves to have a friend and be happy. Before she met the other children, she was miserable because she had no one to talk to. She only could talk to her neighbor Mrs. Michealmas who was and older woman. It was good that she had someone to talk to, although she need someone her age to be around. Overall this book was o.k., but it was not my favorite.

Rating: Summary: One Against the World Review: ...Although it has been years since I last read it, I remember it well because there was nothing else like it out there. Granted, you can find other books with the "Girl against the world" motif (Pennies For the Piper, Jacob Have I Loved, Bridge to Terabithia, Homecoming, Jackaroo, Scott O'Dell's stuff, The Language of Goldfish, Harriet The Spy, the Anastasia Krupnick series, The Secret Window, new stuff by Francesca Lia Block etc.), but none of them really speak to a young reader with such a voice of ...realism as Willo Davis Roberts. The atmosphere of her books reminds me, as an adult, of Shirley Jackson's and perhaps Ursula K. LeGuin's...
Rating: Summary: A wonderful science fiction story for patient kids Review: As a child, I was encouraged to read, but was warned by my third grade teacher to "stay away from that science fiction." It was not a difficult task; most books in our elementary library were NOT science fiction...if they were, they consisted of green, slimy creatures disguised as humans by day and terrorizing student by night. Naturally, science fiction did not appeal to me at all. Until I ran across The Girl with the Silver Eyes. To my third grade mind, it was painfully long, kind of hard to follow, but extremely interesting. It is the sole thing that piqued my interest in all things scifi. Now, as a high school senior and avid science fiction fan, I reread The Girl with the Silver Eyes. For a child's book, it is extremely intriguing. It's science fiction and a suspenseful mystery all in one. It can most easily be compared to a junior version of The X-Files: weird, eerie, yet disturbingly accurate. However, when I was younger, I found the plot boring in many spots, not enough action. At the time, I merely blamed this on my youthful impatience. But even today, I still find the storyline a bit thick in parts, and nearly impossible to continue to the next page. For me to say that reading this book was an intellectual chore is not an exaggeration. Any child reading this book will quickly lose patience with it, it has so many slow sections. Its surreal plot and wonderful scifi appeal is for the extremely patient only.

Rating: Summary: The best!! Review: Girl with the silver eyes is, by far, one of the best childrens books I've read. I am a huge bookworm, and for 4 YEARS went to the library weekly, more than that if I could get my parents to drive me... it was a joke I had there that I was there more then they were and that I would LIVE there if I could(and that is true, it still is for a matter of fact!) As boring as this info may seem, I feel it is necary to explain. When I was 7 I discoverd this book. I thought it was the best book in the world and got it out as many times as possible. I still know it by heart, 6 years later. I remember not being able to understand WHY noone else always had this book out, and I remember the astonishment at finding that 9/10 of the names on the checkout card were mine!! I still love this book, and when schol is getting particuarly overwelming I still check this book out. This book is a must-have for any kid, any age, and I think all you adults out there would like it to. I give this book a well earned 5 stars, though I would like to give it 6!!!
Rating: Summary: Awesome book I read in 4th Grade Review: I agree with the reader from Florida wholeheartedly! I loved this book when i first found it in my 4th grade classroom "library". I took it home, and never gave it back. Of course, my copy had a girl with chin length hair with her arms crossed and her body turned to the side, and she was in front of a park....but anyway I don't have it anymore:( I think this book is a wonderful choice for young people. I also must add that the Richard Peck series about Blossom Culp is awesome as well (I read it at age 12 and wrote to Mr. Peck who was kind enough to answer me, and all of my subsequent letters to him. He even sent me an autographed copy of his first book because I had a hard time finding it. What a sweet man:)The Girl With the Silver Eyes is adventurous, fun, a great story, please give it to your kids to read, or read it to them. :)
