Rating: Summary: Children of A New World Review: J.H. Long weaves an intriguing tale about a fascinating educational computer with a human personification. One instantly thinks of the Doctor on Star Trek Voyager, yet this is a different sort of holographic person/computer. Ms. Martha Smith is certainly the "ideal" teacher and much more. Ms. Smith and her new class of eight students become more than a cohesive unit when their first field trip forces them to apply their unique talents and rescue themselves and a runaway hydroponic farm. Later in the book this special group of children must figure out how to rescue a starship and its crew from flesh eating aliens. Although this book is aimed at 5th through 8th graders, adults will surely find it a book worth reading. Colony VII is exceptional written and would make a great addition to the fiction section of any middle school library.
