Rating: Summary: neve campbell meets joan of arc Review: I enjoy stories of young heroines who must rescue family, the weak, a nation, or an ideal by facing hardship, sacrifice, betrayal, or the supernatural. Scudder spins a fantasy yarn into a tapestry of family, politics, legends, tragedy and humor. The background is the Unicorn galaxy and its pattern of war between Kreenons and Marsaynians. Kreenons raided earth for human slave labor and after centuries were able to breed with them to create Marsaynians. All humans in the galaxy were murdered except the newborn Angel, taken secretly by the Kreenon physician couple who raised her. The intrigue of Angel's birth, the destiny of the teenage earthling, and how she copes with her challenges, define the course of the story. Along the way, Angel learns not only about friendship and loyalty, but betrayal and death. The warrior Angel relies on logic, experience, science and a sense of humor. She must learn to use untapped resources when she comes face to face with the mythic force known as the Wing . The adventure concludes but more is to come about warrior Angel in a future novel.
