Rating: Summary: Reading it because I paid for it! Review: This seems like the author's first book and she is still looking for her voice. A confusing cross between Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings, the bad guys (goblins and sorcerers) fade into the backgound behind a Mills and Boon love story - hero buying clothes for Vic (Victoria) and buying her a "breast knife". Sorry but any girl with breasts doesn't have ANY space for a dagger in her dress bodice and certainly could not bend over wearing one without stabbing herself. The mystical "land" is not consistent: pubs and stews with beef and carrots, doesn't match with gambling card games and "raccoons" which are native animals of north America. Maybe that's why our hero has to explain to our heroine what a raccoon is! Not enough is made of the sorcerers. The Goblins should have been an invented mystical creature/being. A mix of made up names Deraun and Lady Tiya (well done) mixed with ordinary names Kevin and Jacob was just plain uncomfortable and became a jarring note in the story. I had difficulty staying with the plot and didn't care about Vic and her true love General Jacob Marin - no suprises in a predicable relationship.
