Rating: Summary: "To Free an Angel" is a great book for kids Review: "To Free an Angel" is an excellent book for kids ages 9-12. This book deals with some tough situations while gripping the reader's attention. Britt is an 11-year-old with an attitude whose mother, a foreign news journalist, has been captured by terrorists in the Middle East. Britt is troubled by her mother's disappearance, but even more troubled by the war games taking place in her eccentric Uncle Gibby's living room. Britt feels that to save her mother, she must stop the war games. In the space of one mystefying night, Britt finds herself transported to a foriegn, magical land in a desperate attempt to save her mother. Tensions between Britt and her two new friends, Ayyub and Sybilla, add a little spice to the book, and Mr. Allebach's description is amazing. I definitely enjoyed this amazing book! I recommend it as a great book for kids.
Rating: Summary: Great coming of age adventure Review: This book is a real winner for kids (and adults) of all ages. Tom Allebach's imagination and attention to detail brought me and my kids smack into the middle of Britt's world where action, adventure and mystery are never ending. Whether it's Britt dealing with her real-world fears and struggles or those in the mysterious foreign land she enters, we felt like we were on the adventure right along with her. It's very refreshing to see a book like this come along. It not only has plenty of action to grip the reader, it also has a very strong message as Britt comes of age and gets a greater understanding of herself and what is truly important in life. I strongly recommend this book to everyone.
