Rating: Summary: A Review of "The Dechronization of Sam Magruder Review: The Dechronization of Sam Magruder is an intriguing story of science and adventure. It is about a scientist who constructs a time machine, is accidentally transported to the dinosaur age and is, as you may have guessed, unable to return. The story is an account of this journey through his eyes and the eyes of the future...
Rating: Summary: Simpson's Paradox Review: The Decronization of Sam Magruder has been compared to H.G. Well's "The Time Machine" in its usage of categorical distinctions of personalities like "The Pragmatist" or "The Common Man" to identify his characters. This is a "cognitive estrangement" common to satirical works like Gulliver's Travels. Simpson's target for satire seems to be the paleontological theories of his peers much as Swift attacks memes of political world-views. Simpson's name is also attached to "Simpson's Paradox", which is a statistical anomaly wherein completely complementary interpretations can be derived and justified simulataneously from the same empirical data. The discovery of such a profound paradox must have compelled Simpson to relate it as widely as possible; encapsulated in a what on the outside is a harmless sugar coating of fiction.
