Summary: After reading this, I am ashamed to be a Campbell!
Review: What a fantastic book!
I married into the "Campbell clan" 6 years ago and approx the same time went to a Campbell family reunion. There was much talk of history/pride of clan etc, until one of the old aunties told me the Campbells were actually famous in scotland as murderers of Macdonalds!
I had never heard of the "Glencoe Massacre" until then, and stumbled across "Lady of the Glen" by pure chance.
What a gripping read from start to finish! Jennifer Roberson's writing style is wonderfully involving and had me hooked, i literally couldnt put it down. the story between Cat and Alasdair is truly beautiful (who cares if that is the only part of the storyline that is fictional?) and involving, and really made the dry facts of an historical event 300+ years ago come alive.
2 thumbs up for this unforgettable book and i cant wait to read the rest of her books!
I notice some of the other reviewers found the book a bit slow/boring/too historical - if it is a bawdy "romance" novel you are looking for, this is not the book for you, but if you are looking for a beautifully told, historically accurate account of realistic characters - you wont be disappointed.

Summary: Author's description of book.
Review: When asked to summarize my novel, LADY OF THE GLEN, in short-form, I answer: "It's a combination of BRAVEHEART and ROB ROY." It's more than that, too, but I feel that's a succint and evocative (and short!) description of the book. Romance is involved, but it isn't a "romance" per se; it's a love story combining the Highland culture, political intrigue, and a volatile cast of documented historical characters who begged to have their story told. The facts of the Massacre of Glencoe, in which the Campbells tried to wipe out the MacDonalds, handed me a great story on a silver platter

Summary: NOT JENNIFER ROBERSON'S BEST. . .
Review: When I started reading this book I was really excited. I had high expectations. I was really let down by this book. In fact, I hated it so much, it put me to sleep. It was extremely boring and too sappy for me. Jennifer Roberson is my favorite author. I loved the Cheysuli Chronicles, the Novels of Tiger and Del (I can't wait until Sword-Sworn comes out!), Lady of the Forest (my favorite book-second only to By the Sword by Mercedes Lackey), and Lady of Sherwood. I couldn't finish this book it was so boring. I was very disappointed and let down by it. There was no action at all! I hated both the main characters and I can't honestly say that I had a favorite one. The book was too wishy-washy. It was written well -i'll give Jennifer Roberson that much- but the story line and plot just didn't catch my eye. It was supposed to be a romance/political intrigue kind of book but the main characters just seemed apathetic or constantly in despair. The characters just didn't have enough determination or drive. If you're thinking of getting this book, just try it out and see for yourself, I guess.

My Opinion: this book stinks!!

Summary: A fabulous book
Review: _Lady of the Glen_ is a wonderful tale of 17th century Scotland, focusing on the history surrounding Clans Campbell and McDonald. Don't be fooled by the cover into thinking that this is just another bodice ripper romance; the love story between Cat and Dair is a thoroughly satisfying one, and the history is fleshed out and fascinating.
