Review: I am waiting for this book to be published again!! When will there be a reprint at last?

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Subtle, thorough, and fascinating
Review: The New Gulliver is an astonishingly well-done role-reversal, in which Lemuel Gulliver's 20th-century descendent narrates his experiences in the bizarre culture of Capovolta, where women are (obviously) best suited for using their brains and are therefore logical and rational, while men are (obviously) best suited for using their brawn and are therefore illogical and emotional. The natural result of these (obvious) distinctions is that women dominate government, business, science and the arts, while men are predominately house-husbands, responsible for domestic drudgery and child care. Dodderidge's clever and well-thought-out reversals of sexual objectification and the pregnancy "trap" are particularly fascinating, and her imitation of the original Gulliver's style is a surprisingly good fit to her story. And it is a story, not merely a collection of situations in which our expectations are confounded. I almost wish I could move to Capovolta -- and barring that possibility, I wish some enterprising soul would reprint this largely unkown classic.
