Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Foster's excellent story collection ROCKS! Review: The future of film-making was predicted in M. A. Foster's excellent 1985 novella/short story "Entertainment", found in his excellent collection titled _Owl Time_ from DAW.
"Entertainment" is set in the distant future, in a city controlled by a computer where the people mostly focus on creating multi-media entertainment or "movies". The computer allows them to take any musician and actor from the past, combine them in any way -- Bach playing Genesis songs onstage with Jim Morrison and everyone dressed in Edwardian costume. They also go through old black and white movies and remove the cigarettes and smoke -- something that is being done right now.
BTW - I highly recommend any of M. A. Foster's books, a good start is _Waves_. Very thoughtful and well-written in the descriptive and stylistic manner of Jack Vance and Gene Wolfe.
