Rating: Summary: A well-written, intriguing book. Well worth reading Review: This book is an excellent representation of two species, one
human, one alien. The plot, with its continual twists and turns and revelations of the alien culture, with some
insights into humans as a species, kept me guessing.
I am an inveterate end-of-the-book reader, and was delighted when, not only could I not figure out the plot, but
the ending itself was tantalizing enough to draw me forward.
This is not a typical space opera; there are few shades of black
and white, mainly gray. The interaction between the the main human and alien characters is fascinating, and sometimes tragic (I think - I'm still trying to get a handle on the ending). There are a few stereotype characters, but they are
usually minor characters who impinge little on the story. The engine driving the plot are intriguing and sometimes
thought-provoking. Early in the book, I was afraid I might have a plot somewhat like the movie "Alien" but was relieved to find it was not so. I continue to ponder the ending and plan on re-reading it to find the many parts I am sure I
missed. I look forward to their next book.
Rating: Summary: Good on so many levels Review: This book works on so many levels. The characters are great (a rarity for thrillers). The science works. The society is real and believable. The threat is entirely plausible. For the hollywood SF croud it's 'Alien' meets 'Rendezvous With Rama.'
Kinda kills you that this was a first novel too! You really ought to check this book out
Rating: Summary: Above average Review: This hardly is a 'must-read' book, but for those who like 'science-fiction thrillers' it will be an enjoyable read. As to plots, scenery, science and technology there is nothing very original in the book. It has a feel about it of being written as a script for a movie, complete with a feel-good ending. But, except for the first few pages, it moves right along in a fairly even pace, maintaining tension. The most interesting bit is the part of the Fuzzies (no relation of H.Beam Piper's creation), an interesting speculation on how alien ET's can get. In a sense this reminded me of "Warhorse" by Timothy Zahn.
Rating: Summary: A DARK SF THRILLER Review: THIS IS A DARK SF THRILLER THAT WILL GRIP YOU
FROM THE START. A WARRIOR FROM EARTH AND LADY
SCIENTIST ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN STOP A ANCIENT
ALIEN HORROR FROM DESTROYING A COLONY WORLD AND
IT'S NATIVE INHABITANTS.
